Assuming that those four fights

along with Franklin in the main event and Cro Cop-Dos Santos will comprise the televised card, it looks like Sherk is getting bumped down to the prelims for the first time in a loooooong while.

Thats a pretty good card. The only fight for Rich that could possibly make this card a real main event is Chuck I’m guessing. I don’t think fans are going to want to pay to see Rich vs Cane even though thats a good match up.

Chuck isn’t fighting til next year.

Yeah but who else would make a serious LHW match up for Franklin? I know Luiz Cane would be a worthy contender but he has no Main Event Appeal.. I think even with a solid undercard and the possibility of a Cro Cop/Dos Santos Co-Main it is still a card that is not going to sell a whole lot. Could Dana have a mystery opponent lined up?

I think this matchup bodes well for Trigg

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

Oh, as a side note. Tiggs line of clothing is going out of business. Buy what you want now because it is going away.

by szucconi on Jul 14, 2009 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Nooooo…. Trigg said it?

by Nick Thomas on Jul 14, 2009 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Great name, questionable clothing line.

Jeff Sherwood once said something on air to the effect that he had a case of Triggonomics shirts in his garage that he couldn’t even give away.

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

Yeah, he at least said it on facebook. or who ever runs his fan page said it.

This isn’t looking like a must-buy for a lot of people so far. The top of the card is lacking.

I’d pay for any card with Martin Kampmann.

Kampmann brings the heat. As a fan, I’ve never felt that way about Swick though.

Oh, I’m ordering it, no doubt. But if they’re looking for a buyrate north of 500k, they need to put some stank on it.

^ this

if this weren’t three days after UFN19, i’d expect it to be a free spike card. not that it doesn’t have potential to produce some great fights… there just aren’t that many big names on the card.

by woooburn on Jul 14, 2009 11:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t be surprised if the UFC rematches Franklin and Wandy. A close fight that the fans liked. It would certainly be better than Ortiz/Shamrock 2.

by missmanners on Jul 14, 2009 7:51 PM EDT reply actions

Wandy wants it, and Franklin seems like he’s willing to fight who ever the UFC asks him to, at whatever weight

by missmanners on Jul 14, 2009 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Franklin wants to move on with his career.

I’m sure he wants to continue his 205 campaign, but it wouldn’t be the first time he’s acquiesced to company demands

by missmanners on Jul 14, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

He's trapped in some sort of Silva Limbo

It’s a good thing the UFC doesn’t do overt freakshows or they’d probably make him fight Paulo Silva.

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

by capital L on Jul 14, 2009 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

This is one those cards that doesn’t have a killer main event, but is still stacked nonetheless.

Yeah

My comment earlier, if you saw it, was meant to illustrate that all of these cards are stacked now, so we need to hold them to a different standard. Definitely needs a quality main to make it par with the spectacular cards of late..

I poop rainbows.

Dana said at the fan expo Q&A that tickets to 100 weren’t any higher than any other even they’ve had. Yeah right, they were only twice as much as these ones.

You mean Dana lied? Shocking

by Jmend255 on Jul 14, 2009 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Really good card overall, but it looks like it will be lacking a main event. Pretty good overall though.

by Jmend255 on Jul 14, 2009 9:08 PM EDT reply actions

I doubt it will

But it is. If it’s Franklin vs someone it won’t be too hot, I suspect. Not a ton of options right now.

I poop rainbows.

It's only a few hours from my hometown

I just might have to get tickets…

Sigh...

Of course I just move from Dallas four months ago.

Solid card, but needs a big main event.

by Mocha Shaka Khan on Jul 14, 2009 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

What would you do?

I live close to both and Ive nver attended an event. Hit the OKC fight night 4 days before for a third of the price and less travel or pay big bucks for the Dallas card. This is a toss up for me.

by Wonderlic on Jul 14, 2009 11:17 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Wait for the main to be announced and decide then.

I poop rainbows.

by Blackout612 on Jul 14, 2009 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I am curious to see what the main event will be

But this card is definitely lacking star power. I am sure that the fights will be fun to watch, and Dos Santos vs CroCop and Swick vs Kampmann could/will have title implications. Cane vs Franklin looks like a logical fight for both, but I can’t see that being a main event fight unless this turns into a free event. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the UFC add another fight with some star power to it.

by chrisbboy82 on Jul 15, 2009 1:44 AM EDT reply actions

Lacking?

Swick, Franklin, Sherk, Cro Cop, JDS, Kos, Trigg, Tyson, Hermes….a lot of very good fighters and former champions on this card.

by Riney on Jul 15, 2009 1:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Like I said previously, this modern day UFC needs to be held to a higher standard. They almost can’t hold a card with that kind of talent. We expect more with the sort of talent they have in their ranks.

I poop rainbows.

by Blackout612 on Jul 15, 2009 2:49 AM EDT up reply actions

But you

would agree that if Affliction or Strikeforce had a similar talented card it would be “Most Awesomest MMA Card Eva!”?

by Riney on Jul 15, 2009 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe some MMA fans don’t hold Affliction or Strikeforce as high as the UFC, but it really does seem like a good card (on paper) for Affliction or Strikeforce equates to it being great to some MMA fans. I am not trying to discredit those two organizations either, but I see what you mean.

by chrisbboy82 on Jul 16, 2009 5:04 AM EDT up reply actions

I am referring more towards fighters that are PPV draws

All of those fighters that you mentioned are highly talented fighters and are fun to watch, but what I meant by star power was fighters that are PPV draws. Like I said, these fights look like they will be fun to watch, but without any fighters that draw PPVs and fights that have any true bearing on their respective divisions (with the exception of Swick/Kampmann and Dos Santos/CroCop), I can’t imagine many people ordering this card.

by chrisbboy82 on Jul 16, 2009 5:01 AM EDT up reply actions

I can agree

with that. If they give Franklin a big name it might carry the card.

by Riney on Jul 16, 2009 11:41 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree with others who say this card has a lot of great fighters and very good matchups.

What I think it lacks, and this is nitpicking, is the fight to cap off the night of good fights that piques everyone’s interest. A fight that the whole PPV builds do. Sometimes you need that grudge match, that matchup of UFC stars, etc to cap off the night to feel like the whole show was great. I’m not sure that will happen, but they should still have 6-7 very good fights on this card either way.
