Jose Aldo Set to Challenge Mike Thomas Brown in November

Aldokosbrookins Despite speculation that he could head down in weight to avoid a collision with fellow Nova Uniao featherweight Wagnney Fabiano, Jose Aldo (15-1) will challenge Mike Thomas Brown (22-4) for the WEC 145-pound strap on November 11 at WEC 45. The Brazilian confirmed the news to intheguard.tv on Tuesday and said bout agreements were signed on Monday; the location of the show is not yet determined.

Since entering the WEC with a shocking upset of featherweight legend "Pequeno" Nogueria last June, Aldo has racked up four more wins by TKO, each more impressive than the last. His most recent fight - an 8-second demolition of the very tough Cub Swanson - earned him "Knockout of the Night" honors and made him the clear-cut #1 contender to Brown's title.

That should be interesting. Brown is beginning to look almost unbeatable, and Aldo is just fun to watch and a more than formidable fighter in his own right. I give this match two thumbs up. The WEC brass can rest easy now, knowing that I approve.

Oh shiiiiiiiiit

I love Aldo. This could be awesome or Brown could try to pin him for five. I hope they bang it out. Could be explosive.

This is one of those fights where I’m not pulling for either guy. You know it’s going to be explosive! I can’t wait to see this!

Great fight. I’m not picking against Brown until somebody beats him.

Seriously, it is quite impressive how fast this division is growing. It seems like yesterday it was non existent for the casual fan, then came Faber, then came Brown, and Aldo is quickly becoming a name among the average fan. The title fights have been amazing and this will hopefully be no different.

we the highly intellectual readers of bloody elbow know the likes of Assuncao (had to check spelling), Garcia, and Fabiano, but i guess the casual fan knows three featherweights (pulver not aldo) and maybe even Aldo.

Michael Thomas Brown? Did he officially add his middle name?

by mythbuster on Jul 14, 2009 4:44 PM EDT reply actions

I had heard of him as Mike Thomas Brown before he was in the WEC. Then it became Mike Brown. I think hes actually switching back.

thanks Rabbit. Guess he’s trying to distinguish himself. Mike Brown is a boring, common name. Adding a middle maybe makes it more memorable?

eh, long as he keeps swinging, he can call himself what he wants :)

I only got one suggestion for Aldo, guillotine Brown is sloppy and leaves his neck for the taking all you have to do is look to take it.

I didn’t think I could be more excited for a fight than Torres/Mizugaki. I was wrong.

Torres/Bowles!

I think Bowles will probably give a good account of himself but lose, then win the rematch later on.

Don’t lock Aldo in the cage! Let him run freeeeee!

I really hope that becomes his thing permanently.

I foresee ill-advised Charles Bennett-style flipping off the cage antics.

It ends in an armbar or a strangle regardless.

yup…that was great. The dude was taking crap for running into the crowd the fight before so what’d he do the next time out. :)

Aldo’s got a big future.

Being that he’s a former soccer player and he kicks like a Clydesdale, the victory lap is very appropriate for him. He should do “goal hands” next time and the whirly bird in the octagon before leaving to the crowd.

WEC 45 in November

Must mean 44 in October, looks like WEC is starting to go the monthly route. I like.
