Alan was a very tough fighter. The damage of the low blow in the beginning of the fight was quite strong. I thought that if he hit me there again I wouldn’t be able to continue the fight. I wanted to take a large break but there was confusion during the fight. I misunderstood the referee saying 5 minutes in English as 5 seconds, I continued the fight urgently but this took a big toll on the exhaustion of my physical strength. My eye got injured when I got downed on the first round by a left. I felt an abnormality in my eye after the end of the 1st round.
The UFC or NSAC should probably allow a Japanese translator to stand up on the mat when a low blow or penalty occurs. This could have been a major problem for Akiyama.

I love Sexyama, but his trainer or manager should have informed him before the fight that after an illegal blow you get 5 mins to recover. I know I would want to know all the rules if I was fighting in another country and the judges didn’t speak my native tongue.
Exactly, that’s his responsibility to know ALL the rules beforehand.

I was thinking the same thing at the time....
Even the very casual fans watchin with me were like “how does he know what thew ref is saying?”
I know some guys dont like to take the allotted time so they dont mess their rythem up, but more time could have really helped Aki. I think both parties are at fault here as the NSAC or UFC should allow a translator in times like that but also Aki’s mgmt should have drilled these rules to him weeks before the fight. Good point Kon.

My jaded eyes
were watching Sexy like a hawk assuming he was milking the shot for extra time.
I also liked the shot after the bell at the end of the first round — I thought that was payback for the nutshot.
WAR SEXYAMA.

Noticed that...
Belcher looked like the pissed off lil brother who just got a wet-willy after that late shot by Sexyama.
On an unrelated note… will someone please get Belcher some new shorts! If you dont like the damn shorts low on your legs then wear shorter ones, or wear some man-panties like shogun/GSP. he looks like a 13 year old trying out for cheerleading with his shorts rolled up like that. Hell, he could even go man-skirt like Melvin.

Sure didn’t look like he was milking it to me. Perhaps you guys got better shots at home but from inside the arena it sure looked like he was in pain. I asked the guy next to me why he didn’t take more time because he looked like he needed more but he only took a minute. Seemed odd to me.

He is half Japanese and half Italian. He speaks with an Italian. He also speaks with his hands. He might know some Japanese, but I don’t know.
He’s Brazilian of Japanese and Brazilian ancestry. He isn’t Italian at all.

The person who told me he was Italian is going to get bitch slapped. I can even count how many times I have repeated that bogus info. I feel like an idiot.
LOL, he hears the first name Mario and assumes the guy is Italian because of a video game he played 20 years ago, then he goes and tells all his buddies and they start spreading the false info everywhere, that’s great.

He speaks with a Brazilian accent. I’m not sure he even speaks Japanese.

Wait, they go over all the rules before the fight in the locker room. This isn’t some big secret: every UFC fan that’s watched more than one pay-per-view knows how this works. How can Akiyama not know?

My thoughts exactly
the 5 minutes for a nut shot rule isn’t some obscure rule, most fans know that a fighter gets 5 minutes, Sexyama has only himself to blame for not taking the time he needed.

This brings up an interesting point...
The NSAC and other commissions within major UFC markets… need a referee who can speak both English and Japanese/Korean. It would be so good to see that happen.

could the NSAC not
allowed someone at ringside, like right up beside the cage screaming Japanese at Aky? I don’t necessarily think someone needs to be right beside the fighter, but at least allow them up there.
Translator at ringside is unnecessary
There is ample time between the signing of a bout and the event to have a translator put together a phonetic cheat sheet of all warning and rules. Refs would have plenty of time to remember these simple phrases and prevent this from recurring.
