Bisping: "I honestly don't know what happened to me out there"

via img.thesun.co.uk
The UK Daily Star caught up with Michael Bisping after his devastating knockout loss to Dan Henderson:
"I honestly don’t know what happened to me out there. I will just have to accept what the organisers say in their rules about when I fight next and take it on the chin. But I do know that I have the ability to bounce right back and succeed in my aim of lifting the world title ... Henderson won it fair and square and I have nothing but praise for him ... I have seen people like my training partner ‘Rampage’ Jackson lose fights in one or two rounds and still go on to become one of the best light-heavyweight fighters of them all, so I am not disheartened in any way."
Well, 'The Count' certainly comes across as humbled in the article. After the months of trash talk coming from Bisping, Saturday's vicious (or X-rated as the Daily Star put it) knockout was just about the worst outcome for him.
I, for one, will be interested to see how Bisping carries himself before his next outing. I think it would behoove him to keep a lower profile and let his fighting do the talking for him. I don't see that actually happening, though.

Every time I see the damn thing I want to club a baby seal or throw a puppy in a woodchipper or something. I HATE the Ottawa Senators.

Ouch.
You sem to be the resident funnyman around here though, so if anyone you know sees it, you can always tell them it’s a horrible, tasteless, horrible joke. :)
But still, you better hope none of your buddies at home see this.

I wish you had been missing him a few years back. During the Palffy years, he helped keep us out of the finals more than a few times. :(

Beat me to it.
You should’ve included a Friday pic though.
Bad call using the term ‘take it on the chin.’ That should be something you try to avoid, not welcome.
And he’s absolutely right about Rampage. Bisping isn’t done- he’s just not elite yet.

Yeah man, a few of my friends who are casual fans at best wondered why he chose that as his tactic.
by jlamb on Jul 13, 2009 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He didn’t really ‘choose’ that tactic. Hendo did a great job of forcing him to go left. Every time BIsping tried to circle right (away from Hendo’s right hand), Dan would immediately cut him off. Watch the fight again and just watch Henderson’s footwork. Bisping’s only choice were to circle right or to wind up in the clinch with an Olympic caliber greco roman wrestler. After watching Hendo manhandle him in the clinch at the end of round 1, I can understand why he was reluctant to go to his right.

Dammit.
circle LEFT or wind up in the clinch.

Yeah, I certainly agree with that assessment. If I’m in the cage and my opponent is cutting me off and forcing me into his power then I know that I have to change something up. Obviously Bisping didn’t as he got KTFO’d but it didn’t seem like his corner had any pearls of wisdom as to what he could do. Henderson came in with a superior strategy and Bisping paid for it.
I’m not complaining though…I’m not a Bisping fan at all. Seeing him brutalized was eerily gratifying for me.

His corner was telling him to stop circling into the fist. I like Bisping but hard to fault anyone but him for that loss. Oh, and Dans hand gets some credit ;)

Thanks for the clarification. I had a ton of novice drunk dudes watching the fights at my house so between rounds was the time for everyone to scream about how badass the previous round was so I didn’t hear what his corner had to say about his circling strategy.

Wonder what it’s like for Bisping to watch the Superman Punch from Hell. How many times will he see that in highlights? It’s like Coleman’s highkick knockout.

Whatever the MMA equivalent of getting “posterized” is, that’s what happened to Bisping.

On the eve of finalizing the new UK TV deal the “poster boy” not only comes out talking a big game but come fight time is scared shitless to then ultimately get flat lined.

You know what was awesome about that punch? He threw it like Randy Johnson throws fastballs! Straight up baseball pitch punch! Freakin sweet!

I actually like Bisping but he never looked comfortable out there. The outcome was inevitable from the first minute of round 1.

I thought he might work on his kicks a lot more since that was about the only way he could finish the fight, but he barely threw one in the first round. I wanted him to win so badly and a lot of people thought he had a chance but he made a pretty dumbass mistake and paid for it
by StevenGiles on Jul 14, 2009 7:17 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Kicking versus an Olympic wrestler is usually a recipe for disaster. It might be a useful strategy later in the fight once the guy has gassed, but more often than not, kicks just wind up being an easy takedown for the wrestler.

KO of the year anyone?
What amazed me was seeing “Hendo” stalking Bisping with his right hand cocked back! lol How much more obvious could you be? lol I loved the fake low kick by Hendo though. Bisping mind: “Hoy….this bloody bastard is gunna try to luu kick meh? I fink I should moving lef…….what’s that?” ……..lights out! lol
I was dying to hear a response from “The Count”. Hopefully, next time, he won’t be too cocky with a legend. Oh, and was it me, but didn’t Bisping look way to thin for the fight. He looked sick. Kind of looked like “Powder” ……

Well, it’s probably gonna go to Machida KTFO’ing Rashad but Henderson’s was definitely awesome.

I hate to say it, but I would vote for the Hendo knockout. Machida had the far better performance, but just going by the knockout I give the nod to Hendo.
