Rumor: Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal vs. Don Frye at M-1 Global event, Aug. 28th.

11128461_tml_mediumYeah, you didn't read that wrong. Your favorite American firefighter/advice columnist has been confirmed by MMAMadness as to taking a fight that is a very bad idea. Frye (20-7-1-1) is 43 years old, and he hasn't fought anyone with close to the caliber of wrestling that Lawal possesses since maybe Mark Coleman back in 2003:

MMAMadness can confirm that Muhahmmed "King Mo" Lawal will be fighting Don "The Predator" Frye at an M-1 Global event taking place August 28, according to a source close to the event.

Lawal—a Division I All-American wrestler out of Oklahoma State is currently undefeated riding a four fight winning streak. Nicknamed "King Mo"—Lawal made his MMA debut in September 2008 and has assembled three straight TKO victories over Travis Wiuff, Fabio Silva and Yukio Yaito. His latest victory was a unanimous decision win over Ryo Kawamura at Sengoku 7.

Now, this could potentially be a rumor, but MMAMadness has been pretty good about scooping some stories in the past. It's interesting as to why M-1 Global is throwing down the cash for this matchup, and it's even more interesting to see them work with Sengoku on the loaning of some fighters. In any case, Sengoku probably figured Frye wasn't a threat, and he really isn't. It should be a nice one-sided fight, but I love Don Frye so much for telling young men everywhere to never get married.

Yo

I heard about this last week from a local fight here in NC that supposedly has ties with Lawal…nothing was finalized at the time….so I wouldn’t be surprised if it were true by now though.

Wasn't it going to be Bobby Lashley originally?

That is a better fight IMO as I don’t think Lashley is anywhere near as far along as King Mo. For King Mo this should be a walk.

Yea

Was rumored to be Lashley at first…which kinda of why I took the rumor of Frye/Lawal I got last week kind of lightly.

Except that he’s coming off an injury. They might want to wait on that one until they know where his knee is.

It was confirmed by Mo

Mo was on mmajunkie radio and confirmed that the fight has been made but the contracts haven’t been signed yet but he is preparing for Frye.

Why not

stand Gary Goodridge in front of a speeding NY taxi? This is the kind of match making that hurts the sport of MMA. Hope Don doesn’t get hurt.

I am I the only one that wants to see if that big old bear of a man Don Frye can test the medal of the King? I think it will be a great fight. Go Takayama on his ass Don!

You’re favorite American firefighter/advice columnist

Sigh… really?

Are you busting my balls for using “You’re” instead of “your” at 5 in the morning, or the fact that Dear Don was not your favorite advice column… or maybe you hate firefighters.

Nah, I’m a Sotomayor supporter – I only hate white firefighters. Of which Don is one. Fucking guy.

But seriously, ‘you are favorite American…’ looks like a goddamned Google translation.

Don Frye WAS a great fighter.

Unfortunately, he is now a tomato can. This fight is a waste of Mo’s time.
