Javier Vazquez vs. LC Davis and Mark Hominick vs. Deividas Taurosevicius Added to Affliction: Trilogy

According to MMAJunkie and Sherdog radio, two great FW bouts have been added to the Afflliction: Trilogy card - Javier Vazquez (13-2) vs. L.C. Davis (13-2) and Mark Hominick (16-8) vs. Deividas Taurosevicius (10-3).

I believe Atencio and Affliction was working on putting Din Thomas on this card.  An instant re-do match between Vazquez and Thomas would have been great to see, considering the war of words they have been involved in after the Ultimate Chaos weigh-in fiasco.  We still are not sure if Din Thomas will appear on this card or if the damage from trying to cut so much weight was too severe for him to compete so soon.

L.C. Davis is coming off of a shocking defeat against Michihiro Omigawa in the Sengoku FW tournament.  His loss, which at the time was considered a fluke, is now seen as the consequence of an emphatic resurgence of the Japanese veteran in the FW class.  He followed his shocking win by dominating Nam Pham in the second round, and will compete in the Sengoku FW semi-finals soon.

MMAjunkie reported on the addition of the Hominick vs Taurosevicius bout.

Hominick, an Xtreme Couture fighter, makes his second appearance for Affliction. He hasn't fought since the organization's first show, "Banned," when he defeated Savant Young with a second-round submission in July 2008. It was Hominick's third win in four fights, which included a couple of wins in the TKO organization in his home country of Canada.

Taurosevicius, meanwhile, makes his Affliction debut after also taking more than a year off from competition. The Lithuanian hasn't fought since a May 2008 decision loss to Ryan Schultz in the now-defunct IFL organization. The loss snapped his six-fight win streak, which included wins over notables such as Dan Lauzon, Zac George, Savant Young and Bart Palaszewski.

Star-divide

Here is the latest rumored card for Affliction Trilogy:

MAIN PPV CARD:
Champ Fedor Emelianenko vs. Josh Barnett (for WAMMA heavyweight title)
Gegard Mousasi vs. Renato "Babalu" Sobral
Vitor Belfort vs. Jorge Santiago
Paul Buentello vs. Gilbert Yvel
TBA

PRELIMINARY HDNET CARD:
Paul Daley vs. Jay Hieron
Chris Horodecki vs. Dan Lauzon
Ben Rothwell vs. Chase Gormley
Mark Hominick vs. Deividas Taurosevicius
L.C. Davis vs. Javier Vazquez
Akbarh Arreola vs. TBA

NOT TELEVISED:
Lucio Linhares vs. Mikhail Zayats
Rob Broughton vs. Jessie Gibbs

Fans can also now signup for the Street Team to get posters and flyers for the August event, just like they did for their first two events.

In other news, Atencio said he could not confirm a reported match-up between featherweights Mark Hominick and Devidas Taurosevicius for “Trilogy” and declined to comment on its status.

Interesting.

Looks like I was right, Vazquez was set up to fight Thomas at Affliction, but it didn’t work out.

Vazquez today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he was hoping to meet Din Thomas, his original opponent at this past weekend’s “Ultimate Chaos” event in Biloxi, Miss., but settled for the bout with Davis.

“I was hoping it would be Din, but it didn’t work out,” Vazquez said.

As for Thomas, despite sharing the same 13-2 mark, Vazquez believes he’s the better fighter.

“I think he’s well-rounded, but I don’t think he’s better than me at any one aspect of the game,” Vazquez said. “I’ve been doing it a lot longer. Maybe in two or three years, but I don’t think it’s his time.”

I actually like this match up a whole lot more.

Not really something that excites me..

Interesting to see that hordecki is in the prelims while there is still a TBA fight they’re hoping to add..

Gomi? :)

This is like a mini FW GP. Savant Young, Hominick, Vazquez, Taurosevicious. Not a bad set of FWs.

With the winner getting the title of 10th best featherweight in the world or something.

Try 25..

Don’t get me wrong, I am really excited about how stacked that card is, but just not because of these 4 guys.. They may be pretty decent, but compare them to the other quality fights, they’re just, uhh.. meh.

I forgot to mention LC Davis and Din Thomas. Its not a bad FW lineup at all.

I don’t know if you are aware of it since you are not in the states, but, if you sign up, Affliction gives you free posters and flyers. What MMA fan wouldn’t want free stuff? A bunch of people have done it already for the first two events.

If you go to other websites, they actually post that stuff up.
I’m not sure why no one really talks about it here, so there you go.

Although, I don’t think that really helps you or others outside of the US since they don’t ship their promo pack outside of the US.

What no shirts?

Hahaha..

But in all seriousness, I actually have lots of family members living in SFO and lots of family members who fly back and forth there maybe three times a month so I always get stuff from there.. Plus I do go around SFO during the holidays and then buy a lot of stuff haha…. But anyway, the point is, if I wanted to, I could do it.. I’m just not one of those guys who hang posters of half naked guys on my wall. Haha.

If they were tshirts maybe.. Maybe..

On Twitter, HDNet is giving away free Affliction shirts everyday. You should check it out. I think Leland won one already. :)
