Rumor: Roy Nelson and Wes Sims join cast of TUF 10
I haven't been following rumors about the next season of The Ultimate Fighter 10: Team Rampage vs Team Evans, with exception to the Kimbo Slice story but I found this rumor to be quite interesting. MMA Madness has the scoop on this rumor.
"Former IFL Heavyweight champion Roy "Big Country" Nelson and UFC veteran Wes Sims will join Kimbo Slice on the cast for The Ultimate Fighter Season 10: The Heavyweights, a source close to the show reported."
Interesting to see the mix of talent that will be in the house this coming season if this rumor proves to be true. You have former NFL players, Kimbo Slice, a former champ in Roy Nelson and Wes Sims. You'll remember that Sims has competed in the UFC before, compiling a 0-3 record with losses to Frank Mir(twice) and Mike Kyle. In his first fight against Mir at UFC 43, Sims was actually disqualified for stomping on Mir's head which led to the rematch at UFC 46. At UFC 47 Sims was knocked out by Kyle but later complained that Kyle had bit him in the chest, an illegal move which was not noticed by the referee.

Damn, I would LOVE to see Big Country in the UFC. He had a shot at beating Arlovski – that ref standup was total BS.

Good for Nelson.
So Sims was the douche who stomped Mir’s head…he’s getting another chance because…?

I always wanted to see Nelson in the UFC just to fill out the UFC heavyweight division
Nelson is a good mid-to-upper-mid tier fighter with good experience. I can’t see him as a title contender, but he is a solid fighter that would most likely be a gatekeeper to the top tier. I was very impressed with his trips when he fought Monson. Despite Nelson’s size, he is actually pretty agile.

Didn't Dana Call Nelson...
A Fat Azz and said he doesn’t want people to think thats what an MMA fighter looks like?
Either way, it appears that Nelson has WAAAAY too much experience to be in TUF.

Yup
When Zuffa decided not to pick up former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson, most of us thought it was simply due to Nelson not being a terribly attractive asset…from a business perspective that is, not literally. Now, however, word is emerging that Nelson’s portly physique is in fact what steered him away from the Octagon, and toward the oversized ring of Affliction.
"Joe Silva was telling me to lose some weight and gain some muscle. He said I need the UFC look," Nelson recently told TAGG Radio. "Nelson went on to say it was the Barnett type treatment and that he didnt want to do steroids or anything stupid [and] said thats just his genetics."

“The UFC look”, thats mad messed up.
Keep in mind though that this was before Nelson gave AA a run for his money and beat Monson (at least on everyones scorecards at home).

Dana sure did say that, and I thought it was bullshit when he did, but it appears the sumbitch has changed his mind. This would be so, so great.

TUF 10: Hypocracy
Roy Nelson? Too Fat For UFC
Kimbo Slice? BBQ Fighter
Wes Sims? Stomped Mir In Head
What?

Sims fought twice after stomping Mir in the head, so it’s not like he was excommunicated and then brought back for the show. Nelson’s a legit HW (AND YOUR QUOTE IS ROY NELSON QUOTING JOE SILVA NOT DANA WHITE) and I’ll be thrilled if he’s decided to give those garbage promotions and that bullshit standup against Arlovski the middle finger and come to the Big Leagues.

Yes, I quoted Joe Silva, but Dana said it too. Too lazy to go find it.

I don’t like Nelson in the cast. He would have a very good chance of being the season’s Mac Danzig, the experienced veteran who wins the show and then doesn’t do anything in the UFC. Leave the field open for the prospects to duel it out.
Sims, on the other hand, would have no chance of winning, and would be great entertainment.

The difference—I would hope—is that lightweight is a much more competitive class than heavyweight. Agreed on the Sims part, totally.

The Wes Sims rumor had been floating around for a while now but I’m pretty sure it’s because there is a former football player named Wes Shivers that’s supposed to be on the cast and people are mistaking the name. I guess he could be on there but I don’t know why they would bother considering the potential talent that has been rumored for the show.
Roy Nelson on the show would really be putting a ringer in there, he’s top 20 talent and would tear those young guys apart.
A good run down of the season 10 rumors here: http://www.fightbomb.com/Fight-Schedule/the-ultimate-fighter-10.html

Makes more sense that way :D
Still even a top 30 fighter in a house with a bunch of young guys with little experience is still pretty much a ringer. Perhaps I’ve just gotten used to the declining talent levels on the show as the seasons go by, Roy Nelson doesn’t fit the current mold for the show.

Well him being on TUF would do nothing to prove any of that or change opinions(unless he lost then he really would come off as overated but he isn’t going to get any credit if he wins this thing).

In no particular order and with a few extra since some are debatable...
…Fedor, Mir, Lesnar, Nog, Barnett, Couture, Mousasi, dos Santos, Kongo, Arlovski, Werdum, Carwin, Cro Cop, Sylvia, Overeem, Gonzaga, Aleks, Silva, Rothwell, Cruz, Hunt, Velasquez…

Props for actually naming that many people.
He already beat Rothwell.
Not sure Aleks can be counted as an active fighter.
I truly wish I could agree on Crocop.
Hunt would get subbed.
Cruz? Who’d he beat?
In the coin flip category I’d go with: sylvia, gonzaga, and arlovski as of right now.
Now to help your case I think you overlooked Buentello.

It looks like they’re throwing out the mold for this season. If it’s permanent remains to be seen, but I doubt that names like Kimbo and Roy Nelson are going to be competing for the standard TUF contract, or even dealing with the typical TUF nonsense.
by Phildo on Jun 9, 2009 12:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
TUF does need to be shook up and having more experienced guys on there is a good thing I just don’t know if they can find enough experienced guys to do a whole season now. Just having one or two on a season takes away from the competition angle, if you are going to do veterans you need to do the whole cast as vets.

I hope the ufc signs nelson,

by "Mr. NC-17" on Jun 8, 2009 10:07 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Giant Silva couldn’t make heavyweight even if they lopped off one of his legs. Ricco Rodriguez would end up back in celebrity rehab after a season in the “free booze” TUF house. Does Tre Tellingman still fight? I rather see him in there than Wes Sims.

I just can’t buy the rumor for Nelson. He’s way to good for TUFers. He’s very well-rounded…pun intended.
But he truly is….great ground work, very solid hands. He’d face rape everyone on that show.
by Headkick on Jun 9, 2009 9:56 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Not necessarily.
Some of the power displayed by some of the former NFL’ers could catch some of the veterans. Nelson should win the whole thing if he’s on the show though, but there is potential for him to get pummeled in top control by a more powerful guy.
