Roger Gracie won both the Absolute and Super Heavyweight divisions at the 2009 BJJ World Championship, becoming one of five two-time World champions. Gracie submitted both Nova União's Ricardo Demente and teammate Romulo Barral with chokes from the mount to win the weighted and openweight categories, respectively. Other black belt winners included Marcelo Garcia (middleweight) and "Cobrinha" (featherweight).
