No video stream? See this is where Strikeforce is slipping. Even Affliction had live weighins…

I’m not seeing any information for a stream at Strikeforce or Showtime.

Yeah I know, I checked.

Lame, weighins and the staredowns get me hyped!

Affliction had a 90 minute weighin show. Even an untelevised weighin is better than that.

It was for HDNet and InsideMMA, and it was actually pretty good.

Affliction weight ins were good? They were good-n-painful.

by szucconi on Jun 5, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

At least they were on TV.

Goodness gracious, griping about the quality of weighins?

Mike Goldberg: "You know Joe, growing up as a child Kimbo Slice was never given any bread with his meals. This is why he insists people give him his bread."

by xFenixKnightx on Jun 5, 2009 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I was not griping, someone said they were pretty good. They were the opposite of that. Yes they were on TV, but they were so painful and poorly done that they likely hurt the buy rate.

by szucconi on Jun 5, 2009 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions

The best part was if you cranked the volume inbetween fighters you could hear them talking on the microphone about what they would do next and just random bullshit.

Jerry “The Fifth Beatle” Millen said something along the lines of “OK when Fedor comes out im gonna come out and get the microphone to introduce him.”

Even though the other guy announcing each fighter coming out was a lot better & more professional.

So it was great the same way YAMMA was great, because of the dysfunction.

I long for the days of the YAMMA.

by szucconi on Jun 5, 2009 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Like I said...

On HDNet, they were good (they were weigh-ins for crying out loud).

If you watched on ESPN stream, then they sucked, because they were meant for HDNet.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jun 5, 2009 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions

They sucked on HDnet, also. They were just plain bad. Poor planning and production. I don’t even know how you are defending it. Sure, it was just weighins, but THEY tried to make it a big deal and failed in an epic way.

by szucconi on Jun 5, 2009 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought they were good for InsidemMMA.

That’s a bit much though. Who doesn’t buy a card because of weigh-ins?
Hahaha…

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jun 5, 2009 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Good? Half of it was just the Affliction visual in the background while everyone sat around and BS’d. They used a bathroom scale on a stage. Come on.

Isn't Diaz/Smith at 179 (not 180)?

Or are they gonna pull that dumb shit where they can weigh in 1 pound over anyway.

When it’s a catch weight bout, you shouldn’t get a pound. I am looking at you Gina Carano.

It is some bogus shit.

From Showtime:

Fresh off their respective thrilling wins in the premier of Strikeforce on SHOWTIME (April 11), the versatile Nick Diaz and knockout artist Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith will meet in a special 180-pound showdown.

182.75 for Lawler..

What’s the point of the 182 catchweight?

Creator of the FightMatrix rating system.

by JCS_FM on Jun 5, 2009 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

The point is for Lawler to be much bigger then the person he is fighting.

by szucconi on Jun 5, 2009 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

And he still might lose.

Creator of the FightMatrix rating system.

by JCS_FM on Jun 5, 2009 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I’ve got him losing. There are a lot of people picking shields.

by szucconi on Jun 5, 2009 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Shields' striking is soo suspect that Lawler KO's him first round

but then again I’ve never been huge on Shields due to his lack of well roundedness… He seems so lost on his feet… I remember watching Bully Beatdown HOPING the bully didn’t get a lucky KO on shields lol.

I am pretty sure strikeforce weigh ins are just meant to get your weight, without any real goals in mind.

They’d LIKE you to come in on weight, but they are willing to pay you $400 instead of $800 if you just fight anyways.

by DirtyML on Jun 5, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Complaining about some under card fighters that no one knows and that wont be televised?
=)

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jun 5, 2009 5:31 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s the difference. I care because Baumgartner is actually a prospect that Strikeforce is looking to push. If he can’t make weight all the damn time, it’s a serious knock on him.

Follow my analysis of all things MMA on BloodyElbow.com

by Leland Roling on Jun 5, 2009 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, got it. Yeah, they both didn’t make weight, so typically one fighters knows ahead of time the other fighters isn’t going to make weight, so the other guy doesn’t bother anymore. Hopefully he will have better luck next time.

by MMASuPreMaCy on Jun 5, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s called being professional, just because a guy fights on the undercard doesn’t mean he should be allowed to come in at whatever he wants. What if one of them came in at 179, would that still be ok? 181? 184?

by ufc4 on Jun 5, 2009 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

It might be a 175lb catchweight, but I can’t find anything from Strikeforce on that.

I was at the weigh-ins this afternoon

Arlovski got the biggest fan reaction easily, with Anderson Silva a close second in Feijao’s corner, and Nick Diaz third.

My personal highlight was one of the Showtime producers trying to instruct Baroni where to direct his attention so the photogs could get their shots, to which Baroni replied “Shut the fuck up, man.”

Randleman grabbed the mic from Jimmy Lennon Jr. after he weighed-in to tell the fans how much he appreciated their support.

The Shields-Lawler staredown was surprisingly more dramatic than Diaz-Smith. It took Robbie and Jake a good long while before they moved away, with each seemingly waiting for the other to flinch or look away first. Scott Smith seemed more interested in facing the cameras while Diaz was trying to stare him down unsucessfully.

Sounds awesome. A video of this should be hitting the internets soon.

Randleman made weight. Anyone want to bet on the drug test results?

I don’t mean positive or negative – I’m talking specific supplements. I’ve got Boldenone in the points.

Wow – you’re going old school with that pick! Put me down for Nandrolone.
