Takeya Mizugaki vs. Jeff Curran Officially Tabbed For WEC 42
MMAJunkie.com has the scoop of the official announcement that bantamweights Jeff Curran and Takeya Mizugaki will wage war on August 9th at The Joint in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of WEC 42. The long rumored matchup will play second fiddle to the main event title bout between Miguel Torres and Brian Bowles:
A bantamweight bout between Jeff Curran (29-11-1 MMA, 1-3 WEC) and Takeya Mizugaki (11-3-2 MMA, 0-1 WEC) has been formerly announced for World Extreme Cagefighting's WEC 42 card in August.
Curran is coming off of three straight losses with two coming from featherweights Mike Brown and Urijah Faber, who will face off against each other on Sunday night at WEC 41, and a third loss coming at WEC 40 against Joseph Benavidez in the bantamweight division.
Mizugaki recently lost a hard fought war against current WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres in what many consider to be a Fight of the Year candidate already. He'll be looking to begin paving a path back to the title at WEC 42.

Frank Mir has already called this fight 30-22 for Curran. According to Mir, Mizugaki almost threw a punch sometime during the 2nd round, but decided not to.

This will be awesome, but I see it as a bad night for Curran – I think he’s too methodical to handle Mizugaki’s whirlwind.

I’d go along with that.

I wonder if Warren’s relationship with Faber will hurt or help in bringing Warren to WEC. With Faber and Joseph Benavidez feasibly being the champions at 145 and 135 eventually, you have to wonder if Warren would prefer to stay and compete in Japan. Maybe Team Alpha Male can control the 145 and 135 divisions on both sides of the world?
I’ve read some teammates’ thoughts on Warren, and they believe he’ll stay in Japan because he has a “personality that Japan will love”. That and he defeated Kid Yamamoto. I’m assuming that if the WEC doesn’t have their hands in Warren yet, they’ll pay him the big bucks in Japan to keep him there.

Curran is gonna get crushed.
Let's see it!
Sweeeeeeet. I can’t wait for this dude to get to put on a show. I’m sure plenty of people don’t realize just how good he is to have such a war with Torres. Hell’s yes.
I may be the last person alive to not see that fight. I really want to, but I haven’t found a decent quality version yet.

That’s #4 Bantamweight Takeya Mizugaki vs. #19 Bantamweight Jeff Curran.

15th at Featherweight. I sent them to Luke right after we published the other classes, but he’s apparently been too busy to post them.

This is a classic matchup of overseas vs. domestic fighters. It’s one of those matchups that people clamor for in the Lightweight ranks, and should bring a more representative rank to both, especially if Curran wins.
