"Gilbert Yvel has aroused curiosity with comments he made after his KO win over Pedro Rizzo at last night’s Ultimate Chaos event in Biloxi, Miss.

The Dutch kick boxer took the mic after the brutal stoppage to address questions about his near future. He mentioned his Affliction 3 fight with Paul Buentello on August 1st, then added: "From there, I go up to the UFC, up to the champions, because I want that belt. I want the big-ass belt."

The remark has ignited speculation on message boards and has been interpreted as Yvel implying he will be a free agent after the next Affliction show." Fighters Only

First fight...

against Cheick Kongo in the ufc would be nice.

yeah… since neither have any ground game to speak of. Would be an awesome standup WAR.

except you forget

that Congo thinks he can wrestle.
He’s got wrestler-turned-kickboxer syndrome in reverse.

true..

but if they would both stand up i would take Cheick by TKO

They stood up together before and Yvel came out on top via TKO. This would be a fight I’d have Kongo used his wrestling. He can then Al Turk the shit out of Yvel’s face.

Just what the UFC needs…………….

oh they could use

a marketable 2nd tier heavyweight who will be able to flush out the wannabes and give the rising contenders a real test.

I was being sarcastic due to his style. All they need is another guy with no ground game out hunting the KO of the night award every fight. He could be the heavyweight Houston Alexander :D

I have been impressed that he seems to be getting his professional life in order though, so far he seems to be on his best behaviour and he actually showed concern for Rizzo after he killed him and commented on the stoppage. Perhaps he can get beyond the dirty fighter label.

I’m happy to see that there are non-UFC heavyweights who aknowledge that it is the big show they aspire to be in.

kinda surprised people are clamoring for him in the ufc. wasn’t he generally considered a “gimme” win for barnett like six months ago?

he did beat rizzo convincingly, but pedro’s best days are clearly behind him.

He did well vs. barnett and unexpectedly so. But I am still not sure if he did well of Barnett looked shitty. Right now, I consider it both. Everyone knows Yvel is a stand up guy. It wasn’t a surprise that he sucked on the ground, but he hung tough and got a few good shots in. UFC talent, no. UFC HW talent? yes. Head case that the UFC doesn’t need to mess with? yes. The UFC with throw any UFC with three wins in there. Yvel might need to prove he won’t KO anymore refs.

well said.

Yvel has hands made of titanium, I think he’d flash knockout alot of people who’d try to stand with him.

I totally agree.

I think Yvel would do well in the UFC HW division. There aren’t a ton of ground fighters in there anyway. Would he be a title contender? No, but he would be an excellent gate keeper and an exciting fighter.

Well, you know, aside from the champion (Lesnar), interm champion (Mir), Nog, Carwin, Velasquez, Gonzaga, Randy…
