MMA MATH BY DIEGO?  YUS!

"Now, going in and beating two of the top contenders at 155, I think I'm the number one guy." - Diego Sanchez, reflecting on his victory over Clay Guida last Saturday. (MMA Weekly)

"The only other person is Gray Maynard and Gray Maynard has a win over Frankie Edgar, who has a win over Sean Sherk, but also, people don't forget, Nate Diaz has a win over Gray Maynard on The Ultimate Fighter and Guida has a win over Nate Diaz." - Sanchez.  Who needs a FightLines graph when you have Diego "YUS!" Sanchez to regurgitate it for you?

"So, if you really do the math, it puts me as number one contender." - Sanchez.  That and a genius.

Star-divide

WHICH HURTS MORE: BAS' LEEEEEEVER KICK OR THE "YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE" TALK?

"I misjudged him, he turned into a whole different person." - Former King of Pancrase Bas Rutten, explaining his split with MMA engima Kimbo Slice. (Fighter's Only)

"I told him that he was an asshole and that I have zero respect (for him) and I cant train people that I have no respect for. Can’t ever." - Rutten.  Right up there with the "I'm disappointed" chat you get from your parents.

"And what I didn’t like about the Thompson fight as well was he said, afterwards, ‘Yeah, we planned on fighting three rounds,’ and I told him ‘Don’t say that, you were lucky the referee didn’t stop the fight in the second round.'" - Rutten

"I am there for the best interests of the fighters, I want them to win. If they don’t accept that, bye bye." - Rutten

SO HE NEITHER WALKS ON NOR FLOWS LIKE WATER?

"I don’t think he’s Christ; I think he’s very beatable. They’re looking at him and his karate like he’s Bruce Lee. He’s not Bruce Lee." - Jon Jones.  You might have to nail him to a cross to catch him, though. (USA Today)

"He’s very beatable." - Jones, 15-0 says otherwise.

"I don’t think Rashad Evans came with any type of game plan, but to look really cool or look really fancy, dancing around in pretty footwork stances." - Jones.  Getting your face crushed in isn't a viable strategy?

SPEAKING OF GUYS WHO PERFORM SELF-SACRIFICE IN THE NAME OF BOOK SALES...

"I’m probably going to get hurt, if not die. This guy knows how to fight." - Former UFC light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin, on his upcoming fight with pound-for-pound king Anderson Silva. (Fresno Bee)

"The good news is, if I die, this book will sell a lot more copies and be worth more." - Griffin.  If you had caddied for the Dalai Lama, on your death bed, you would regain total consciousness.

"I would like to make some wild claims about the book...I guarantee – a money back guarantee – that this book will not help your fighting, will in no way better your life or improve your life in any way. Not only that, but I also guarantee that this book will not help your love life in any regard." - Griffin, completing the analogy to the Bible.

ULTIMATE CHAOS

"I got to 146.6 and when I asked the athletic commission if I was okay, they said ‘yes.’" - Din Thomas, detailing his weight cutting fiasco at Ultimate Chaos. (MMA Mania)

"So I left the stage and started drinking right away to get rehydrated. Javier’s camp then apparently told the commission that they wanted me to cut the extra half-pound." - Thomas, getting owned by the Vazquez camp.

"So I tried and damn near killed myself in the sauna. It didn’t make sense — if Javier wanted me to cut the weight why wasn’t I told on the stage? I would have dropped my drawers and made it." - Thomas.  Shit, get me a miscalibrated scale.  I wanna see this man drop his drawers.

PROFITS? YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT PROFITS? YOU KIDDING ME?

"He's got to keep fighting - he's too young to quit." - Career killer Monte Cox, on client Tim Sylvia.  Not sure Tim's age should be a big factor in the process. (MMA Weekly)

"I'm not trying to do anything with Adrenaline, other than try to find a place that I can run a show that's profitable." - Cox.  So, he's not trying to do anything with Adrenaline.

DOUBLE JEOPARDY

"Lee was indeed rearrested right away, because the British Authorities did put [in] a formal request to the Moroccan Authorities to have him tried in Morocco for the alleged robbery." - Lee Murray's attorney Abdellah Benlamhidi.  I expect this from America's prison-industrial complex, not the fine and cultured folks of Europe! (MMA Fanhouse)

WHITE NOISE

"The powers that be wanted to steer him off that date. But he wanted that date, so it's on! The boxing guys are so stupid and small minded." - UFC President Dana White, commenting on Floyd Mayweather Jr. rescheduling his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez to conflict with UFC 103. (Cage Writer)

"'It's a good thing he hurt his rib. I heard they sold about 12 tickets for that fight." - White.  Hell, I'd buy a ticket just to watch Floyd break a rib sneezing.

PARTING SHOTS

"Maybe a card that has a breakdown of, I don't know if you want to do breaking a five-minute round up in to different quarters or by minute or whatever, but some way to easily categorize those things that they're looking at: cage generalship, grappling, takedowns, strikes." - Marcus Davis, still crying over his loss to Dan Hardy.  If he wants to highlight a way to quantify the ambiguous criteria of "Octagon control," I'm all ears. (Bloody Elbow)

"If you put Thiago Alves and BJ Penn in a fight, I would bet all my money on Thiago Alves." - UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre.  I'll give him Alves at -1000. (MMA Fanhouse)

"I gave that kneebar to him, he knows that." - UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar, on his first fight with Frank Mir.

"What’s going to be interesting is to see if I still have some of that power." - Bob Sapp, on dropping nearly 50 pounds for a fight with Bobby Lashley.  Needless to say, it's been proven you can't maintain steroid-enhanced strength off the juice. (Pro MMA Radio)

I want to see Diego against the winner of Kenny/BJ for the title. If Kenny wins he has the rematch thing going. If BJ wins he has the two insanely self confident guys on a mission from god to be the greatest of all time match going for him.

That sure was quick?

So, I think Diego thinks he is Brock Lesnar. Two fights in a division and you just move into the title picture, I’m not buying it. Diego still needs to win two (maybe even three) more fights before he gets the winner of Penn Vs Florian. Maybe beating any two of Maynard, Edger, Sherk, Griffin or the loser of Penn Vs Florian would get him the title shot he thinks should just be given to him. Oh, and I’m one of those people that would like to see a rematch of Diego Vs Guida next year. I’m not so sure Sanchez gets the win the second time around.

Secondly, you “gave that kneebar to him” Brock, really? Last I checked you were winning that fight then made a day one MMA training mistake, you thought you smarter than you were (stood up when you were winning the ground war). Mir took that leg of yours and made you cry “quickly”. You are a monster Brock, but you are far from great. Also Mir has forgotten more about MMA than you have learned in 2 1/2 years, so you didn’t “give” him anything, he took advantage of your MMA IQ and won the match, nothing more, nothing less. Plain and simple, if Brock makes a “rookie” mistake again, he will lose again.

Lastly, Bob Sapp looked sad. The guy is the size of a mountain, but Lashley beat him like a rented mule last night. I saw this “bout” and it was sad. Retire from MMA Sapp, you seem like a good guy, but you are not a true MMA fighter. You are a side show that would kill average men, but look sad against real trained fighters.

Diego in LW = Brock lesnar in HW. I wasn’t buying it either but they did it anyway.

Diego is 22-2, and is an estalished fighter

True

Diego is 22-2, but last I checked he has only fought at 155 TWICE. He needs to beat some of the top guys first before he gets a title shot. He has two nice wins, but he needs to win once or twice more against the guys I said above before he get his shot.

by JustinWF on Jun 28, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He needs to beat some of the top guys first

Joe Stevenson and Clay Guida are top guys..
and as some people already said, it’s just gray maynard who’s the only other guy currently in title contention, but he’s still too raw and needs to get more experience before fighting for the title.. I don’t know where i read that but i think maynard also thinks he needs to develop a bit more..
Edgar could be considered but he just had one high profile win, and maybe after he can build up on that he could get a title shot..

who else would you give the next title shot to if not diego?

It’s going to be six months before the LW title is defended again. That’s more than enough time to have Diego fight someone.

I don’t think the UFC nor Diego wants to risk losing a fight and ruining a pretty big fight with Penn or Florian.

As stated, Diego’s 22-2 with some quality wins at LW. He’s now beaten two very solid 155ers. If he doesn’t deserve the next title shot, who does?

As for Brock, I don’t think you understand what he means by “giving” him the kneebar.

by Mike Fagan on Jun 28, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gray Maynard deserves the next title shot – but at the very least, Sanchez should not be shelved until the winter. He should fight either Edgar or Maynard in a #1 contender’s match, because there is no way Clay Guida was going to get a title shot if he won.

by subo on Jun 28, 2009 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maynard’s the only other guy that has a case (maybe Edgar too), but I’d like to see him get a couple more fights in. Not as a matter of merit, but just to get some more experience.

I just feel like Diego needs one more win before he gets a shot.

The awesome thing is that the champ won’t be ready to fight him until the end of the year, so why not give him one more fight (against someone a little harder to beat than Guida) in the meantime?

by subo on Jun 28, 2009 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Maynard feels the same way Mike.

Two guys.

I would give the shot to Maynard or Edger before Diego. That’s just how I feel and both are rated higher than Diego on the rankings from this site, so I’m not alone.

As for Brock’s comment, I understand what he ment (but please tell me what “YOU” think he ment).

and on why Diego is ranked lower than maynard and edgar,

from kid nate:

most of the sites updated before the Diego fight.
our cut off was June 1 so lots of our sources hadn’t accounted for Diego vs Guida.

by Anton Tabuena on Jun 28, 2009 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Our cutoff was actually like May 27th, but the point stands.

He meant that Mir didn’t do anything to take his knee. It wasn’t a result from a set-up or a hard shot, Brock just made a mistake and Mir capitalized.

Brock screwed up in the first fight and he knows it.

You forgot to quote some of Diego's postfight interview stuff

Especially the line where Diego said he likes it when a guy is on top of him all bloody. Other than that, funny stuff yet again.

“The powers that be wanted to steer him off that date. But he wanted that date, so it’s on! The boxing guys are so stupid and small minded.” – UFC President Dana White, commenting on Floyd Mayweather Jr. rescheduling his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez to conflict with UFC 103.

They rescheduled the fight to the weekend after Mexican Independence Day where it will do a lot more buys…which makes a lot of sense. Mayweather’s show is going to kill 103 in buys.

by Brent Brookhouse on Jun 28, 2009 3:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I dislike boxing, and dislike Mayweather far more, but Brent’s right…that fight and 103’s PPV’s aren’t even going to be in the same ball park. If 103 gets even 1/10th as many buys, it would be a good night…I’m starting to wonder if Dana is starting to buy into his own hype.

by Dabashire on Jun 28, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think 1/10 is a bit of an exaggeration. Mayweather’s fight will get somewhere in the range of 1 -1.5 million buys, and I think that is a good turn out. Anderson Silva isnt headlining 103 so it will do more than 300k buys, and more depending on who is the Main Event. They could put Chuck on the card for his last fight to get some more buys.

by xDieseLx on Jun 28, 2009 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do expect Mayweather vs. Marquez to crush UFC 103 but

If 103 gets even 1/10th as many buys, it would be a good night

That’s kind of ridiculous. Even a low end UFC PPV gets about 400,000 buys these days. No boxing PPV is going to get 4 million buys right now, and Mayweather/Marquez certainly isn’t Pacquiao/De La Hoya or Mayweather/Pacquiao.

It's just the Diego mma math by Diego part.

Still thought it was funny. Thread title was "MMA Math by Diego? YUS! Then goes on and copied and pastes the Quote and punch lines.

You know those random, hey Im bored, why don't I google my name, moments?

Yeah you do that too. don’t lie.. Haha.

And recently, when I did that, different forums and other sites copypasting those BE interviews with my name on it show up.. I’ve seen some on sherdog, ultimate-fighter.ca, mmaplayground, and other forums..

So when does it become wrong? When they don’t link? Or when they copy the entire thing regardless of giving credit or not?
