"It is nothing to do with my grappling skills," Aoki replied. "Anybody who has experience of grappling should know about this. This questions seems for non professional."

Aokis pants dont just help his grappling efforts, they help him in all aspects of winning…..they are magic pants after all!!!!!
I say legalize 'em!
But would also like to see Aoki tested without the pants.

Increase the friction, decrease the influence of sweat, make it harder to escape submissions.

which is bad because?
Oh yeah I forgot the huge outpouring of complaints because so many fights were coming to exciting and definitive conclusions via submission instead of grinding to decision.

No offense, Nate, but you can be pretty fun when this stuff comes up. themachiavellian didn’t say anything about them being bad.

Honestly, I’m ambivalent. Aoki is an excellent grappler with them, Nog is an excellent grappler without. I do think the pants help, but if he didn’t have the skills, they wouldn’t matter. And anyone fighting in Japan has the option of wearing them, so it’s a level playing field limited by personal preference.

I’ve never worn pants like that, but from two years of grappling I’d say they help a lot once the sweat is flowing. But on that note, I’d love to see them legalized in the US. I think we’d see a small but appreciable increase in submission finishes in later rounds. I’m just making this up, but it sounds good so I’m sticking with it.
Then why aren’t they allowed in the Abu Dhabi comp…

Are you sure?
You could even wear a kimono if you like

I said this like a year ago. The pants have nothing to do with his grappling ability. As someone above stated, it matters when there would otherwise be a lot of sweat and difficulty executing submissions. Aoki doesn’t really finish fights in the third round – it’s either fast or it’s a decision.
As for why they aren’t allowed in ADCC, I’m not sure. Tons of guys wear rash guards and t-shirts so I don’t see why pants would be any different. But I’m not specifically knowledgeable about these sort of rules in grappling competitions.
I’m not saying he’s useless without them or anything, but for the most part his game is centered around his high guard which the extra grip of the zubaz helps out

Theres pros and cons to them that I think balance out in the end. At times minimal extra grip is a disadvantage. When he finished via gogo, sliding his shin under his opponents chins would have been easier with less grip. But I think any advantage or disadvantage is so small its irrelevant.
Also he hasnt always worn the pants. He has plenty of solid wins without them so those who wanna see how he does without them, just watch his old fights.
It is nothing to do with my grappling skills. Anybody who has experience of grappling should know about this.
Actually, it seems to be the opposite from what I’ve observed.

Jose Canseco....
He wore grappling pants in his debut against Choi. By your logic, the magic pants should have given Canseco ultimate fighting powerz?
Those looked closer to sweat pants. And beyond that, I’m only saying that those with grappling ability are more likely to suggest that the pants are an advantage (depending on your style) than somebody without a grappling background from what I’ve seen.

actually...
they looked more like lulu lemon pants to me… i dont know what the hell jose was thinking!
Is there a hell of a difference between....
The “magic” pants and fight shorts, with knee wraps/braces and ankle wraps/braces? Seems like once you get done with all that extra material for your legs you damn near have a similar thing.
Eddie Bravo encourages the use of pants because of the friction it adds.
