The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale Ratings:

"The live UFC fight card, which peaked at 2.8 million viewers for the main event featuring Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida, was the most watched-program in all of television in Men 18-34 and Men 18-49.

"Also, bucking the trend of most reality series, "The Ultimate Fighter" finale ratings for season nine were the highest since season six and the full season of 13 episodes were the highest in Men 18-34 since season five, illustrating the growing popularity in the sport of mixed martial arts and the UFC brand on Spike.

"Overall, the "The Ultimate Fighter: Team US vs. Team UK" delivered a 1.5 household rating, a 2.1 in Men 18-49 (1.2 million), a 2.3 in M18-34 (663,000), a 2.8 in M25-34 (468,000) and 2.2 million total viewers."

Next season is going to smash these numbers.

no doubt but those numbers are pretty good, thankfully the main event lived up to the hype and kept people entertained.

These numbers are deceiving. The reality is that free entertainment is on the rise across the board. It’s a common trend during economic downturn. TUF can thank the recession for its mini comeback

during a recession people do tend to spend more on entertainment as a way to escape, adding in the free factor doesn’t hurt

I think this card was going to do pretty good anyway since Diego is still a pretty good TUF draw among fans

So your trying to say that the TUF ratings are only up because all tv ratings are up but are all tv ratings up? Do we know that more people are watching tv across the board or is this just a “it’s because of the recession” bit? Heck even with the “recession” UFC ppv buy rates are on the increase, i would think we have a more visible coorelation here with the sport becoming more popular than we do with free tv being free.

So what you’re really saying is an upstart organization that relies solely on PPV buys would be suicidally stupid, right?

by Derek Suboticki on Jun 23, 2009 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions

This doesn't mean that people can ONLY watch TUF in a downturn

Ratings are ratings. So people might be entertaining themselves for free, they still chose to watch a great night of MMA over the infinite number of other free things they could be doing. It’s all positive stuff from where I’m sitting.
