WAR OLDSPICE

How funny will that commercial be if Kimbo loses his first fight? “Come watch Kimbo mope around the house for 5 weeks with nothing to do”

by who me on Jun 22, 2009 2:15 PM EDT reply actions

Well the fight already happened, so they already know. The result doesn’t matter during the hype for the show. This is a win-win for the UFC

by szucconi on Jun 22, 2009 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh I 100% agree with that, the UFC gets almost as big a win out of this if Kimbo gets leveled right off as they would if he became a new drawing star for them. Kimbo can lose big but I don’t really see where the UFC can in this situation.

Nice production value

if kimbo doesn't win the show...

… he could have a future as the next “snap into a slim jim” spokesman.

by woooburn on Jun 22, 2009 2:29 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

I would bet anything that Kimbo’s fight is the is the last one of the 1st round of fights…that will keep the tv ratings high as long as possible. Win or lose, he gets a ticket into the UFC

by mjw2e on Jun 22, 2009 2:34 PM EDT reply actions

I was excited for this season just knowing that Rashad and Rampage were coaching. Kimbo is a plus, but an all heavyweight season should make for some good fights. There are tons of 155-185 fighters out there, but the Heavyweight pool is pretty shallow and there seems to be a good amount of experienced fighters on this season. Should be good fights no matter what happens with Kimbo.

Actually, I’m expecting a bunch of dogshit fights, just like we saw on TUF 2. Heavyweights in general are generally boring, and inexperienced heavyweights are usually terrible.

That said, I love the mix of guys they have brought in and the drama of seeing Big Country demolish a bunch of ripped NFL guys, Kimbo getting KO’d by another nobody, and Wes Simms finding new and exciting ways to break the rules should make for excellent viewing.

by Steve4192 on Jun 22, 2009 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions

If there’s a difference, it’s that the HWs they’ve brought in this year include some incredible athletes who move much faster than a man their size might otherwise, and some incredibly experienced guys like Nelson (who just feels like a ringer at this point), so hopefully it won’t be TOTAL dogshit.

If you name your kid Wes, will they be huge? Does this disprove DNA and the theory of natural selection? Is it all about the name?

by szucconi on Jun 22, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

My best friend is a Wes, and he’s about 6’3" or 6’4". He also weighs about 150lbs, so while he’s tall, huge is a stretch.

Well, tall is a start. I am now called Wes. I hope to put on 6 inches by late fall.

That was funny…I think I’ll be Wes too

I don’t think Kimbo is as much of a joke as we like to think he is. Compared to a bunch of football players, I think he’s got a shot of competing on the show. Obviously he wouldn’t do much in the UFC, but he has beaten better fighters.

by Charger567 on Jun 22, 2009 2:52 PM EDT reply actions

you will be shock

by my reliable source in vegas he fights on the second week of taping. thats all i’ve got to say

What I want is for the show to start already. Sucks having to wait this long.

No spoilers please. I want to watch it with all the excitement of christmas morning for a five year old.

:D

Yeah but you say he dude was wes sims so why should I believe you now?

by spectaa on Jun 22, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I know. No problem. I am paranoid that the cat will be let out of the bag.

by szucconi on Jun 22, 2009 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

don’t they broadcast the fights in a different order than they actually happen? i seem to remember former cast members mentioning that in interviews and blogs

by woooburn on Jun 22, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m pretty sure they do.

by spectaa on Jun 22, 2009 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

They don’t do that. They keep score and all that. How could they do this and still say so and so team is winning.

by xFenixKnightx on Jun 22, 2009 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions

I was thinking about the fights before the teams are made.

by spectaa on Jun 22, 2009 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah, you're totally right.

now that i think about it, those comments were probably made in reference to the fights in the “win to get in” round. good point.

by woooburn on Jun 22, 2009 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions

No, there isn’t a “win to get in” round. They changed that this year.

Sleek

Good looking commercial…good production. I’m excited for the upcoming season, even if it might look like a big PR move.

by MMAMoneyLine on Jun 22, 2009 3:04 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed

When I saw this on Spike HD I was like damn, that looks awesome!

heyyy

i didnt know spike broadcasted in HD. Do they send out UFC ppvs in HD?

from the forest itself comes the handle for the axe

by troy145 on Jun 22, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Yup.

I think only DirecTV carries Spike HD right now. It’s the reason I went with them over Dish. It’s cool because even when they show the old fights they’re upscaled and look better. TUF, TUF Finales, Saturday Night Fights and PPV replays all in HD goodness!

by 49er16 on Jun 22, 2009 4:30 PM EDT reply actions

Or rather something like this, he will beat wes sims and everybody will be like “oh my god UFC vet! Slice is the REAL DEAL!!”

Tank is a UFC vet.
