Ricardo Arona Returns to MMA Competition in Brazil on Sept. 12

Promoted from the FanPosts by Kid Nate.

From Fightbomb's translation of a Portugese interview:

Ricardo Arona: Well, what I have confirmed by now is the ADCC in Barcelona, Spain. I'm confirmed to fight in there. It's gonna happen in September 24th. Also I've spoken with Amaury Bitteti who is promoting a large MMA event in Rio de Janeiro, Bitteti Combat. I'm signed with this event, it'll be in September 12nd.

I'm doing the right things that are needed to be the champion. A lot of boxing, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, a little bit of each discipline, doing the right thing.

I'll come back, for sure. My life has no sense if I don't fight. I don't fight for two years and I fight since I was 15, I stayed away from fights for two years and it had no fun at all. As long as I'm alive and healthy I'll be fighting.

I'll come back like an animal, with blood in the eyes, just like I always do.

Ricardo Arona, one of Pride's biggest stars, has been out of active competition since April 2007, where he lost to Sokoudjou via first round knockout.

I speak ...

But I’m not so good with english…

by Brasil com luvas on Jun 22, 2009 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

In your opinion, Did they have a pretty accurate translation?

Cause me being a non US person too, I find it annoying if Filipino stuff gets lost in translation..

It’s not that I don’t think fightbomb don’t do good stuff, cause they do. I just want an opinion from an actual person who speaks the language. :)

Oops typo.. “It’s not that I think fight bomb doesn’t do good stuff”

This one...

… they did well… maybe 80% are correct…
but…
Ed Soares… sometimes, I can say, is NOT translation what Anderson really speaks…

If you want some help, just ask me…
but I have a “wanderley” vocabulary in english…

Wandy vocabulary is still about a million times better than most of us speak/read Portuguese. Props on actually becoming functional in two languages – that shit ain’t easy.

Cool.

Thanks a lot..

And yeah, I’ve been hearing stuff like ed soares doesn’t translate what silva is saying properly.. It’s weird how silva talks for about a minute then soares translates it to about 10 seconds. I wonder what’s that really about.

Thanks again. And rec’d for being a big help and for giving us a different perspective to things. :)

that soares guy...

he’s just looking out for silva’s best interest, silva can say a lot of dumb things sometimes, and soares cleans it up for the american fans. that’s his job after all, so he can get silva to take home as much money as possible.

silva is an awesome guy, but contrary to what many ppl think, he’s not really that humble… he’s very respectful of everyone, but not as humbled as he is respectable.

at press conferences and post fight interviews

his job is to translate.. Not to be a manager, but to translate what Rogan asked and what Silva mentioned.

if he keeps on blurring the two roles, then i guess the UFC should find their official translators.

Ed Soares is amassing a fair bit of power with the UFC.

That's so badass.

I LOVE me some Arona. Here’s to hoping that he gets picked up by a good org, like UFC/ Strikeforce/ Dream/ Sengoku/ Affliction (if they’re still around)/ maybe even Bellator.

In fact, a run in BFC might be a good call, because it’ll allow him to pick up some good money, and get the ring rust completely off.

Arona must be running low on funds if he is all of the deciding to fight again after

how many years? Here’s to seeing Arona getting Powerbombed thru the ring again.

Arona is exactly what the UFC lhw div. needs right now!

The UFC’s LHW division needs exactly nothing.

Arona is good, but I can't see him being a world beater

Especially in today’s UFC light hevyweight division. The farthest that I can see Arona go is the bottom of the top ten (which is pretty good).

I kind of think so, too

UFC’s LHW division doesn’t have many grapplers, and Arona presents some interesting challenges for most of the guys at that weight.

I think he might do better at MW, however (if he can make the cut, that is).

He’s probably too short to have that bad of striking for that division. He’ll need to either really work on his striking and takedowns or drop a weight class.

I went to an mma show when I was in Brazil and he was there. He got up in the ring for an interview and said that he would be fighting soon and hoped to fight after that in perhaps the UFC.

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

And Arona is jacked!

I agree wholeheartedly that the UFC could use a monster grappler at LHW, but I would like to see Ricardo knock off some of the ring rust before jumping in the deep end and swimming with the sharks.

I have long said that Arona’s game is PERFECT for the cage and the unified rules, but like most of the Pride guys, he is going to need a little time to tweak his game for the new environment.

Yup.

Hopefully he gets the rust off after this tune up. :)
