Matt Hughes comments on potential opponents: Heavy.com: At UFC 103, we saw some fresh faces coming up - Paul Daley beating Kampmann, Vitor Belfort beating Rich Franklin. Do you plan on throwing a monkey wrench into their plans? Matt Hughes: "As far as who I fight next? You know, looking at these younger kids who are wanting to come in and be the next world champion or be the next contender, I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't know if I'll take on those guys. There are plenty of older guys out there with big names who can fight, too. I like to take fights where I've got something to win. If I take a fight against Mike Swick or Josh Kosheck, I've really got nothing to gain from that fight besides a paycheck and beating somebody up. They've got more to win than I do. Those aren't the kinds of fights that interest me. Royce Gracie was a big fight, you know? It was a huge name, a guy that had won the old tournaments in the beginning. Those are the fights I like, the ones I can really get revved up for and get motivated. Those are the kinds of fights that gets me into the gym ready to train and work." It just seems like I was the only guy he could ever beat. He just hasn't done much except for beating Matt Hughes twice. That's what I dislike about that fight. Who else has he beat? "Speaking of Koscheck, I thought it was kind of odd that he called out Hughes after beating Frank Trigg. You’ve been trying to get that fight with Hughes for months now. We knew he wasn’t going to take the fight before we called him out. We -- me and Fitch -- actually told Koscheck to do that. Fitch has asked for him before and then I asked for him and the UFC told me I wasn’t going to get that fight. So before Koscheck’s fight we were talking and we just said, ‘Hey, why don’t you try it and see if he’ll fight you.’ It almost sounds like you guys don’t even want to fight him so much as you just want to keep after him for not taking a fight with one of you. Like it’s become a game in itself at this point. It is. There’s no real motivation anymore to fight him. We know he’s not going to agree to it. It’s just a game now. Matt Hughes responds to Koscheck calling him out at UFC 103: "I find Koscheck calling me out kind of interesting and I actually don’t know why he is doing that. I was used to kids doing this when I was the champ, but as you know I don’t have the belt now and I’m puzzled as to why Koscheck wants to fight me and not the champion in the weight class. I have no interest in fighting Koscheck and, as he was showing everybody, he’s just a kid. As of yet, the UFC has never come to me and asked me to fight him." HT: matt-hughes.com
