Quote of the Day: Melvin Guillard

"Tibau is a good jiu-jitsu guy, but I went back to just straight wrestling – defending takedowns - and I’ve been wrestling with college-level wrestlers." "I’m not that good on the ground in jiu-jitsu, but I have been doing my jits to keep myself from being submitted, and most of all, I’ve been focusing on my wrestling, because as soon as I touch the mat, I’m trying to explode right back up. I’m not trying to lay there and rest, because the minute I lay there, I’m letting him get more position. And my cardio is good enough to get off that mat and put this guy away."

"I have all the tools I need for this fight, I’m very confident, I just want to get back in the UFC, and after this fight I want to fight Tyson Griffin or Frankie Edgar. I want to fight the contenders so hopefully a year from now I can fight BJ Penn if he’s still the champion. That’s my goal right now."
-- Melvin Guillard talks about his return to the Octagon at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale.

Props for that. No hugging him until the ref stands you up. Get your ass up. No one can hold you down.

Yeah get up after tapping to that guillotine!

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

Both alves and Tibau are fucking monsters for their divisions.

The fact that Tibau weights like 220 pounds will play a factor. Tibau by submission, round 1.

Guillard

Melvin’s strong, but Tibau will be stronger. Guillard better home for a flash KO or this fight won’t get out of the first round. As an early pick, I like Tibau by submission.

Tibau by submission? That’s really going out on a limb….

pun intended?

he does kinda look like a jerry curl’d hobbit. i pray to god he submit Guillard…or perhaps Melvin will be the epitome of our sport and test positive for COCAINE again……another reason why anything out of Dana’s mouth is just empty words to me. a guy tests positive for cocaine: bring him back. you’re a silver medalist in the olympics and you wear a gambling agency t-shirt to a weigh-in: you’re contract is negated. Poof!

Hmmm

All I’m hearing is “I’m expecting to rely on temporary explosive power that will fail as the fight goes on, and have no fallback tools like the jits that I only studied defensively.”

Exactly, what could go wrong?
