UFC 99 "The Comeback" in Pictures
Promoted from the FanPosts by Kid Nate.
Between work and personal life issues I've not been contributing to BE as much as I have in the past, so allow me to remedy that with twelve of my own favourite shots (by me, of course) from UFC 99: The Comeback
Let's kick off with one of the most memorable images of the night: Stefan Struve, emerging from a slasher movie of a fight to be rampant in victory whilst Denis Stojnic can only wonder "what if...?"
Eleven more images after the jump
A knockout blow might have been out of reach for John Hathaway, but he still managed to secure a decision win over Rick Story
Bad blood between Paul Kelly and Rolando Delgado boiled over from the weigh in and saw three rounds of action erupt between the two
Kickboxer Dennis Siver showcased some versatility in notching up an impressive first round submission of Dale Hartt
Striker Terry Etim also showcased his submission skills, putting a d'arce choke on Justin Buchholz
Paul "Relentless" Taylor lived up to his name in constantly seeking for - and finding - holes in Peter Sobotta's defence
Spencer "The King" Fisher forcibly ejects Caol Uno from his guard
Marcus Davis and Dan Hardy finally stopped the trash talk and let leather and bone do the talking instead
Ben Saunders "Killa B" was more like a B-Grade performance against Mike Swick
Mostapha Al Turk shields his eyes from the fists (and fingers) of Mirko "Cro Cop" FIlipovic
Cheick Kongo was not best pleased with his showing against Cain Velasquez
And there was on Silva lining for Wanderlei when he was eating leather courtesy of Rich Franklin
That's all from me for now; maybe I'll shoot in July, maybe in October ;)

The picture of Silva/Franklin is another good one.

I think Kongo needs to find a new camp. One with only wreslers.

Mr. Kongo, Team Quest on line one. Oh, and Arizona Combat Sports left you another message.

I spoke with Dave Jackson and Mario Sukata of Wolfslair following the fight
Everyone knows that Kongo took this fight on short notice; what no-one knew until after the fact is that, one week into training for the fight, Kongo blew one of his knees. I was wondering why he didn’t attempt to throw any of those powerful, punishing leg or body kicks or try to work a knee in the clinch… and it all makes sense now.
We’ve seen Cheick do it in past fights and it was more than evident that he could hurt Velasquez in the stand-up… yet he didn’t have all his weapons….
Furthermore, when on the ground, getting into a position where he could posture up – especially against the cage – was impossible as it just stressed an already injured knee.
That Cheick managed to go a full three rounds against Velasquez in this state means that, when the rematch comes, hrmm…. that will be twice as interesting… :)

Cool, thanks for the info.. :)
I don’t think there will be a rematch though.. Provide us with more inside scoop! Haha :P

I think this is a very good bit of info...
That most people will brush off when they read it. (apparently injuries/sickness before fights only matter if it occurs to a popular fighter ala Nog before Mir)

Thanks for the info. That casts the fight into an entirely different light.

That is seriously screwed up – I almost feel bad for him. [Remembers Cro Cop’s unborn children] Almost.

Those big C's in every picture are very distracting
by Flyghtt on Jun 16, 2009 4:43 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Those big (C) marks help prevent some magazines and websites from casually ripping them off
Photography is my sole source of income; you’d be surprised how many folk want to use my work without paying me for it.
by VikingPhotography on Jun 16, 2009 5:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yep..
Even with those C’s other people still rip them off haha.
by Anton Tabuena on Jun 16, 2009 6:24 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
My only issue with the C’s is it makes photoshopping pictures harder, and MMA photoshops are one of my true joys in this world. That Kongo picture is begging for it too.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.

I respect that but is there any way to make something that doesnt take up the entire picture, or is at least less prevalent
by Flyghtt on Jun 17, 2009 2:57 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not that I know of, sorry
The less intrusive options that are both effective and allow me to track down images that are ripped off cost a ton of money… this works, and is free – sorry!
