Around SBN: Dana White Announces Koscheck vs. Hendricks for UFC on FOX

Quote of the Day: Paul Buentello

Pb_medium
"The first thing that went through my mind on the whole Tim Sylvia fight was that he lost. He definitely made a mistake or got caught. Is Affliction going to use someone who just came off of a loss? .... Is the fight still going to happen now that he lost? I wish he never took the fight."

... "I don't know if the hype is still there after him getting beat. I hope Affliction still allows the fight to happen because it's still going to be a great a fight, but I don't control those pens and papers over there."
-- Paul Buentello on Tim Sylvia's loss to Ray Mercer.

Jesus Christ. That’s the man that ate Tim Sylvia, not the former UFC heavyweight champ.

You know he lost b/c he didn’t shave for this fight – the hair was the clincher.

Of course!

We might see Sylvia get KO’d by the Vaseline guy.

I rec'd this...

I never gave a rats ass about the Buentello vs Sylvia fight anyways…. it’s a card filler fight.

Nate, Richard…. I’m sorry but if Tim Sylvia is still in your Top Ten for HW’s in your Meta Rankings…. that doesn’t speak very well for it because this fight just proves that Tim Sylvia needs to go away and he is not Top Ten or Twenty or even 50…

What the fuck is a "robster craw"?

Well...

if he is in the meta rankings top 10 it isn’t Nate and Richard’s fault. It would mean that all the other websites still have him in the top 10. It’s not a decision to be made by us…it’s up to the ranking sites.

Understood....

Perhaps they can make a judgement call…. if the other sites still have him in there… they can just “conveniently” leave him out maybe?

I’ll admit, I only know bits and pieces about the system that Nate and Richard use to come up with the rankings…. I’ve always liked them and agree with them… except when it came to the HW rankings. I just can’t stand the fact Tim Sylvia is in the Top Ten.

Am I the only one that thinks this fight will be a cakewalk for Paul Buentello?

I don't know...

I kind of thought it was going to be a lot of Sylvia pushing Buentello against the cage for 3 rounds and taking an ugly decision. Now I’m not so sure. Although there will probably be problems getting tim licensed for the fight to begin with (given that he is coming off a KO so recently)

Looking at the calender....

You’re right, no way he’ll be ok to fight in the eyes of the CSAC by August 1st.

Perhaps we’ll see Buentello vs Yvel? I haven’t heard of him being booked in a fight for Affliction 3….

What the fuck is a "robster craw"?

That could be a very good fight – nice idea . I also thought about Rothwell but he’s already signed to a different fight .
The thing about Sylvia Buentello is that Sylvia is still a big name and it was a fight many people wanted to see . But now , after Sylvia got destroyed like that ? You’re right , give it to Yvel .Even if cleared Sylvia still needs to shed an unbelievable amount of fat , I can’t see why on earth he went to a fight in such a shape , did he not already have a huge size advantage on Mercer – did he really need the extra 50 pounds of fat ?

No Problem

I have no problem with a Sylvia/Buentello fight because I’d like to see Buentello get a big KO. Always liked “The Headhunter”.

Pretty much why I want to see it

It’s strangely satisfying to watch Tim Sylvia get crushed, so yes I would watch that happen again.

by Graven Image on Jun 15, 2009 9:15 AM EDT reply actions

I don’t think the problem is going to be Affliction wanting to put this fight on because Sylvia lost, I think the commission is a much bigger problem.

The ABC is the group that got pissed about Monte moving the fight to Alabama after NJ shot it down, and I doubt it was a coincidence that they waited until Thursday to make the announcement that the boxing match was illegal. They very easily could have released that statement as soon as the move to Alabama was announced.

So now Sylvia has to get cleared to fight by a commission that’s upset at him, 2 months after a brutal looking KO. Not exactly a 100% guarantee.

Tim isn’t going to get cleared
Tim can’t make weight
Tim looked pathetic and unprofessional coming in grossly overweight
Tim got decked by a 44 year old guy who Kimbo crushed in 30 seconds.

Truth is Buentello deserves a better opponent.
