The greatest MMA event of all time. Wonder if poor Tim Sylvia will still have a career left after this?

I bet WarGods would still have him. He can take Ken’s place and fight Tank.

This sets up a kimbo vs tim sylvia ufc fight..

He could make kimbo look legit hahaha.. And maybe this is why Brock was asking for big tim for all these years. And wayyy before he got in the ufc. Hahahaha..

Fedor's TOP competition?

So I think Fedor’s last two wins against Arklovski and Sylvia should be questioned.
It’s like somebody beating up the toughest retards. Sign with the UFC Fedor! 3 fights in the UFC: Cain Velasquez, Couture, Lesnar… I think that’s 3 losses. It’ll ruin Fedor’s reputation. Now I see why he won’t sign a multi deal contract.

Okay Fedor fan boys… let’s hear your cries.

by cm40 on Jun 14, 2009 4:34 AM EDT reply actions

This does have an effect on Fedor considering the last 2 guys he’s beat have now been KTFO by no one where near the top 20 of these sham MMA rankings. When Fedor beats Barnett he might have to contemplate the reality of the situation and sign a deal with Zuffa. I realize his status and the who’s who of talent he’s beaten, but this sport and country is all about what have you done for me lately. Fedor doesn’t care though and I respect him for not laying on his back like a payed whore and taking the terms offered by the UFC.

by BSurely on Jun 14, 2009 4:49 AM EDT up reply actions

No...

You could say Sylvia ruined Arlovski’s soul and that Randy/Nog ruined Tim’s soul..

Fedor is still the best fighter on the planet.. But after Barnett there isn’t much interesting fighters left outside the UFC.

by Kaleb Kelchner on Jun 14, 2009 9:50 AM EDT up reply actions

It doesn’t take hard to predict. Rankings always take into account opponents win/loss and performance. Fedor’s dominance has to be questioned. You can’t deny that his opponent’s performance has been detrimental to his perceived dominance. There is no one outside the UFC that he needs to fight. Barnett’s ranking is an illusion.

There is no chance Fedor would last longer than this vs mercer.

Kimbo lasted longer then Tim Sylvia. So I don’t understand your logic here. Fedor would beat Mercer, as would most of the UFC Heavyweights.

by AlwaysRelaxing on Jun 14, 2009 9:29 AM EDT up reply actions

God Daimn...

I feel sorry for Tim , I know everyone likes to hate on him but this is too much , a 10 seconds KO ? That’s worse than what happened to Andrei!
Yep , also unfortunate for Fedor though I doubt he gives a damn…he got his paychecks already

The new season of TUF should do wonders for the UFC HW division. It should give us no fewer than 15 of top ranked HW guys by my math…

Everyone on the new season of TUF > Kimbo > Mercer > Sylvia > Vera > Mir > Lesnar > Couture > Kohsaka > Fedor

Was this an exhibition fight?

I’m not seeing any records updating on Sherdog or anywhere, & if UFC 99 is up, this should be, too, if it counted, yes?

Remember how bad Mercer did against Kimbo?

I think this should tell us all how bad Sylvia is at this point in his career.

by AlwaysRelaxing on Jun 14, 2009 8:54 AM EDT reply actions

To be fair, Sylvia and Mercer probably had an agreement to keep the fight standing. Kimbo bullrushed Mercer and submitted him on the ground. I’m not Sylvia fan, but I’m pretty sure Sylvia would beat Kimbo.

by cmsove on Jun 14, 2009 9:03 AM EDT up reply actions

Unless it was in writing, that means nothing.

Mercer was beaten up by a complete MMA novice.

by AlwaysRelaxing on Jun 14, 2009 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions

When has Sylvia done anything on the ground that would lead you to believe that he’s capable of doing that? I would put Mercer’s ground game as even with Tim.

by cyph on Jun 14, 2009 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m sure Tim has some ground game. He trained at MFS for godsakes.

by rainmaker6 on Jun 14, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea just because a fighter doesn’t use it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have one. Wanderlei Silva has a BJJ black belt, but he prefers to stand and bang, Chuck has a amateur wrestling background but he only used it to stay standing in the majority of his fights. Tim Sylvia trains on the ground(hell in MMA you have to) and it wouldn’t of taken much skill to put Mercer on his back.

by who me on Jun 14, 2009 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

by who me

I think Tim fell so slow that Mercer beat him to the ground. Man that is a career killer.

by Nick Thomas on Jun 14, 2009 9:00 AM EDT reply actions

What makes it worse is he lost to a guy notorious for this K-1 loss. I laugh my ass off every time I see it.

This Poor Guy

I know that Tim has done a lot of stuff that has been laughable and that he makes it pretty easy to poke fun at him, but I can’t laugh at this. This is just sad. Sylvia loses to a guy who got choked out by Kimbo Slice of all people, and who also, as our friend above here points out, quit after getting kicked in the head one time. And Sylvia was all the time running off at the mouth about how he could beat Jerome Le Banner’s ass. It’s just sad. It was fun hating on Sylvia at one time, but now I just feel sorry for the guy. I hope that he can find some way to have a halfway decent career after this.

That event is so bootleg. The cameraman is on a ladder? That’s funny!

by AlwaysRelaxing on Jun 14, 2009 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions

That ladder does not look safe, I hope they had it secured to the post or something. I find that more interesting then a professional boxer knocking out a used up shaved sasquatch.

BREAKING NEWS!

YAMMA Pit Fighting has confirmed a two new matches for their second card:

Tim Sylvia vs. Sean Gannon
Ray Mercer vs. Fedor

See….this is why they don’t let Anderson Silva fight Roy Jones. The Silva myth would get exposed.

by P4P is a stupid concept on Jun 14, 2009 11:10 AM EDT reply actions

Somehow I don’t think Anderson would get KO’ed with a run-of-the-mill hook in the first 10 seconds. Not saying Silva wins, but it would be a much different fight.

by thetakeover on Jun 14, 2009 12:31 PM EDT up reply actions

It might, but this just illustrates an important fact. Boxers punch a lot harder than MMA fighters.

If you take a top flight boxer (even one past his prime) and put him against an mma fighter in an mma match, it’s either going to look like this or look like kimbo mercer, its just a matter of what happens first, the punch or the clinch/takedown.

If you put those fighters in a wink wink nod nod mma fight with no knees, elbows, takedown, ground, etc, the mma guy is going to go to sleep a very high percentage of the time.

by Phildo on Jun 14, 2009 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Well said….

It is

very fitting that Timmehs career ended in a dirt floored pole barn with uncle Jed on his new ladder with is cell phone in hand.

But in all fairness 99% of the people on this planet get hit with that punch they are out. Even Fedor or Lesnar would be out, thats why people take smart fights.

I don’t know how a reputable MMA promoter will ever be able to use Tim again. He has pissed away his winnings from Affliction and with no fighters union he will become the new Gary Goodridge. Guess he could be a Lobsteh fisherman with some of his family.

by Riney on Jun 14, 2009 11:27 AM EDT reply actions

Gotta love the anti-Fedor marks...

…coming out of the woodwork to act as if a fat-assed Sylvia, who wasn’t serious/didn’t train for an unlicensed boxing/stand-up fight – devalues his previous win in an actual mma fight.

Most of them are the same people who turn their head the other way after seeing a Cain Velasquez who showed some big holes in his game at this point and call him an elite HW and someone that Emelianenko just needs to get in there with right away.

I am the bastard love child of Junie Browning and Diamond Dave Kaplan.

by The_Gaijin on Jun 14, 2009 3:20 PM EDT reply actions

Im sure if/when he does come in to clean out the HW’s, they’ll complain he’s fighting guys who don’t have enough experience or that he’s not cutting down to fight Anderson Silva, GSP and BJ Penn.

Saw this in the comments on Cagepotato and thought it was funny:

Here’s some more math:

Time it took Fedor: 36 seconds
Time it took Mercer: 9 seconds

It’s undisputable, Mercer is over 4x better than Fedor. And undefeated. Who can stop this guy?
