UFC 99 Results: Mike Swick Stops Ben Saunders in Two Rounds

At first it looked like Mike "Quick" Swick might not live up to his nom de cage, but then suddenly with only a little more than a minute left in the second round, Swick blitzed Saunders with a brutal flurry of punches to score the TKO win.

German fans seeing their first UFC got a third slow start in as many fights. Ben Saunders pulled guard but didn't manage to do anything for over three minutes. At one point Mike Swick audibly asked Saunders, "Are you just going to hold me all night?" Saunders answered, "Let's go back to the feet, bitch," causing announcer Joe Rogan to award the smack talk exchange to Saunders. After a referee restart, neither fighter was able to score much on the feet.

In the second, the two lanky fighters clinched again, throwing knees before Swick scored a trip takedown and got right to the mount. The American Top Team trained Saunders was able to get back to guard before Swick could do much damage. After a referee restart at the midway point of the round, the two fighters felt each other out for an extended period of time. Then suddenly Swick drove forward and finished Saunders with a barrage of punches, doing most of the damage with his left hand.

At the end of the fight, Swick called out champion Georges St. Pierre, #1 contender Thiago Alves and the legendary Matt Hughes. Time will tell how long Swick has to wait for his title shot.
