Spencer Fisher is out of Miletich.

And it looks like another fighter has left MFS. In part one of Dana's latest blog, Dana and Spenser are talking about his training:

Star-divide

Dana: You still with Miletich?

Spencer: No, I've started my own thing up.

I am not going to speculate as to why Spencer left, but these depatures certainly make MFS look like a sinking ship. Part of the appeal of any given school is the success of it's members. MFS does not have that many guys left at the top of the MMA world.

It does seem to change every few years, the top camps. MFS and Team Quest were the big ones 3-4 years ago. Now both are well-known, but hardly the destination of the top prospects. I am curious to see if Pat takes steps to try to build up MFS and it's roster of fighters.

It’s just like Team Quest. One-dimensional.

I'd actually say that MFS' problem is

that they’re jack of all trades, masters of none, just like Miletich.

I believe the two are quite different for the reasons you guys stated. Team Quest fighters like Henderson, Sokoudjou, and Lindland all bring one thing to the table, which most of the time is simply wrestling or in Sokoudjou’s case, recklessness. MFS guys don’t really excel at anything as Nate said. When the best example of an MFS fighter who’s top-level at something is Drew McFedries…

And Drew doesn’t even train with MFS anymore

How far the mighty have fallen.

I don’t think this is a big deal at all. Fighters leave their gyms all the time to start up their own operations. It doesn’t mean MFS is falling apart, it more likely means that Spencer is thinking about how he’ll make a living 10 years down the line.

It looks bad because McFedries left, like, twenty minutes before this.

I thought...

McFedries was kicked out for his statements after his fight?

Well, yes and no. He’d already started looking for training partners elsewhere… It looks more like a protracted carwreck of a divorce to me than anything else.

And former MLS posterboy Tim Sylvia...

..is a bit of a laughingstock, eh?

If you see Mark Coleman in person, drop $5 on the floor and watch the fun as he tries in vain to bend down and pick it up.

Poor Tim, it has to be tough to get hit so hard that you suffer a career KO. Wonder if he will be the next one out of Miletich?

^ This

Guys who think beyond the next fight or two realize that they need a source of income after their career is over. Since most of them only know how to fight, starting their own gym and capitalizing on their UFC fame is the most obvious choice.

Every gym runs through phases like this. We saw it happen to Carlos Gracie, we saw it happen to Chute Boxe, we saw it happen to BTT, we saw it happen to the Lions Den, we saw it happen to the original Team Quest, and now it happening to MFS. In two or three years, the same thing will happen to Greg Jackson, or ATT, or AKA.

Nobody stays on top for more than four or five years.

Title of this article should be "Fisher LEAVES MFS"

He wasn’t kicked out…. he was smart and opened up his own gym to cash in on his UFC name, plus MFS is going down like the Titanic.

What the fuck is a "robster craw"?

If nothing else, Fisher leaving for either reason really emphasizes that second point. It’s sure looking like “Captain Pat of the MFS Titanic” could end up being a cautionary tale for other fight camps…
