Report: Kevin Randleman vs. Mike Whitehead at June 6th Strikeforce Event

Kevinrandleman_mediumAccording to Sherdog.com, former UFC heavyweight champion and PRIDE veteran Kevin Randleman will make his Strikeforce debut against IFL veteran Mike Whitehead on June 6th's "Lawler vs. Shields" Strikeforce event taking place in St. Louis:

Former UFC heavyweight champion Kevin Randleman will make his promotional debut against Mike Whitehead at Strikeforce "Lawler vs. Shields" on June 6 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Strikeforce Director of Communications Mike Afromowitz made Sherdog.com aware of the matchup on Thursday.

This adds to an already impressive lineup of Lawler vs. Shields, Diaz vs. Smith, Baroni vs. Riggs, and "Feijao" vs. Jared Hamman.

This should provide a litmus test as to where Randleman is in his career. He's an older fighter at 37 years of age, and he's only fought once since his PRIDE 32 loss to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in a winning effort at Sengoku II against Ryo Kawamura. That was roughly a year ago, and we'll be looking to see if age is beginning to drastically affect Randleman's skills.

Whitehead has defeated some credible competition in the past with wins over current UFC fighter Krzysztof Sosynski, MMA legend Mark Kerr, and a 2002 win over Ben Rothwell. He has yet to truly break into his own and obtain a win over a current upper-echelon type of fighter. This could be his opportunity to showcase himself with Strikeforce.

Why is this in the fanposts?

Anyway this is a good fight. We’ll get to see what Randlemans got now and if he’s really evolved like he sais he has. Question is, will he go with the blonde do? If not then that right there is the first step lol.

I guess his turning down of the Feijao fight had nothing to do with timing.

If I were in his position I’d rather fight Feijao than Whitehead. True Feijao is a much tougher fight, but if he loses to Mike Whitehead…

So....

What happens after Randleman loses to Whitehead? They got somebody else for THE MONSTER to fight?

As far gone as Randleman is mentally he should get by Whitehead who always seems to mail it in the bigger the stage.

I really don't think so.

Whitehead should be able to stuff Randy’s takedowns, and outbox him for the (lackluster decision) win.

I think they’re hoping Randleman takes this. But he won’t, I don’t think. He looked very ungood against Kawamura and I think Whitehead will be too much of something for him.

This may be the best post I have ever read, lol. Rarely do you see a fight broken down to the nuts and bolts like this.

3 absolutely great lines:

“But he won’t, I don’t think.”

“very ungood”—this should be used by all of us from this point forward!

“too much of something”—laughed my butt off!!

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

what about my thought provoking “me too”?

lol It was a series of multiple brain farts. I was watching TV and typing and I thought I made a logical sentence but then yeah… I read it back. Anyway you slice that sentence, I’m a spastic.

Randleman Belongs in the "Super-Hulk" Tourney... 3-7 in his Last 10 Fights!

He may look scary as hell, and he may be nuts for real… but he has only won 3 of his last 10 fights.

The only thing remotely interesting about this fight is the possibility of something crazy happening. Will he fail a drug test? What animal will he use to supply his urine sample? Will his muscles actually burst through his skin?

But…he has become more of a freak than a fighter. Stay clean. Stay out of trouble. Win a few fights…. then ill be remotely interested in The Monster again.

After this long schpeel it seems to me you’re remotely interested.
