Quote of the Day: Demian Maia's Exciting Jiu-Jitsu

Demian_maia_medium

"All of my fights, I try to end the fight. That's my style...I have an aggressive style that's part of my personality. So probably the fight is going to end before the [closing] bell. I go inside. That's not something I choose; it's my instinct. If I can't take him down and finish, he may knock me out, so it's not going to be the same fight."
...

"My game is aggressive...When I fight, nobody boos. Everybody likes it. Everyone cheers for me. I'm happy about that, because I'm one of the guys who is putting the grappling and jiu-jitsu on the level where people are interested in the technique. I can get people excited about it."

-- Demian Maia talking to AOL FanHouse.

Small note: congratulations to Mike Chiappetta on landing a gig at AOL FanHouse. With Ariel Helwani, Mike Chiappetta and Michael David Smith, AOL FanHouse's MMA blog is a must-read.

For now, he will continue to prepare. He has spent quite a bit of time in the last few years training his standup, sometimes with fellow countryman and friend Wanderlei Silva, but don’t expect much to change in his approach.

“The striking game is always a lottery game, so I prefer to take the safe situation,” he says. “Submission is the best for me. I’m the guy looking for it all the time.”

In other words, everyone knows what’s coming. Just try and stop it.

Great quote to end that story.

Good read.

Im so torn because Nate is my favorite fighter and I want nothing more than for him to get a rematch with Silva, On the other hand being a bjj guy i absolutley love Maia and what hes all about, and I honestly think if he gets to fight for the belt he will def take it, Anderson is a legit black belt under the Nog brothers, and has proven he can hang with pretty much anybody in the world on the ground. Demian is’nt anybody and unless Silva quickly KO’s him Demian is gonna manage to either take him down or pull guard and he wont survive for long after that, Being a black belt is one thing, but competing against and submitting with regularity other world class black belts is a totally diff level. Mark my words if Demian beats Nate, Silva will be tapping!

No offense, but wasn't this

I honestly can’t believe the Maia/Nate fight is happening. The 2 top contenders fighting each other??

Anyone smell an interim title at MW if Silva beats Forrest and stays at LHW for a bit?

If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.
