According to MMA Junkie, submission specialist Eric Schafer has suffered a rib injury in training and will be forced out of his light heavyweight fight against Polish striker Tomasz Drwal at the TUF 9 Finale on June 20th. Replacing Schafer will be seasoned veteran Mike Ciesnolevicz:
A source close to Schafer told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the light heavyweight suffered a rib injury while preparing for the June 20 fight.
Stepping in as a replacement and scheduled to fight Tomasz Drwal (15-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is Mike Ciesnolevicz (17-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC), according to the The Times of Northwest Indiana.
Ciesnolevicz is based out of Pat Miletich's school in Bettendorf, Iowa and made his UFC debut in February as a short-notice replacement in the heavyweight division, submitting British goliath Neil Grove in the process. With plans to compete at more his normal 205 lbs, Mike C was penciled in against Elliot Marshall at UFC 97, but suffered an injury himself, with Vinny Magalhaes subsequently taking his spot on the Montreal card. Now apparently recovered, Ciesnolevicz will look to make it 2-0 in the UFC against the heavy-handed Drwal, come June 20th.
