"Well, if I beat Serra -- and I obviously think I will -- and Thiago wins I'd love to get a rematch with Thiago. I think that fight could have gone differently if my knee hadn't gone out, so I'd love to rematch Thiago."
"To be honest, I didn't like the way the last GSP fight went either, so I'd love to rematch GSP. But all I'm worrying about right now is Matt Serra. So where ever winning that fight puts me is fine, but I've just got Matt Serra on my mind right now."

So Hughes is taking over Bronson’s role in the Death Wish movies?
If you're not submitting, you're just rolling around with another guy.

Someone seriously needs to slap the shit out of
Hughes for even mentioning that he would like another fight with GSP.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
He’s Delusional. Probably from all the poundings his brother used to give him as a kid behind the barn.
Mike Goldberg: "You know Joe, When Matt and his brother Mark Hughes were growing up, they would pound each other behind the barn."
Wait…maybe they’re still pounding behind the barn to this day?
*shudders

Because Immigrants, blacks and jews collectively hate Matt Hughes? Or because Serra is partially black? Or Serra is married to an immigrant?
I’d love to see what Hughes sees when he thinks about his last fight with GSP. In his clouded delusional mind he probably truly thought that him being thrown around the ring by GSP was a good strategy on his part, and he was just about to take over when he mistakenly yelled “TAP”
Personally, I’ve got Serra winning this. The guy is tough as nails, strong, skilled, and I don’t think he’s underestimating Hughes the way Hughes underestimates him.
I think it was in reference to his racist comment to Din Thomas on TUF.
Then the incident where he took a pic with clan paraphernalia. But that was debunked I think.
Oh all the knees in that fight
I would have pick Thiago’s to be the difference maker. Thats why I’m not a professional analyst.

Damn...
most of you seem down on Hughes. What, does he owe you all money or something? I don’t see how anybody actually has Serra in this fight. I just don’t see it in ANY way.

most of that
i think, is from Hughes’ stint as a coach on TUF, where he generally acted like a hyper-religious ass. It’s certainly where he lost me as a fan. i don’t think the guy sucks, and IMO he wins the Serra fight. but i don’t see him as a legit world title contender again.
… as opposed to Serra who came across as a classy, upstanding, gentleman in his stint as coach on TUF?
Seriously, I was a Serra fan until he coached on TUF. He was one of the biggest A-Holes I’ve ever seen during that show, and I can’t stand the guy ever since. My opinion of Hughes changed very little during that season, on the other hand.
I really had no opinion of Serra before the TUF show and Hughes never seemed that interesting to me. However i feel they both came off like a couple of pricks. Such pricks, that i have no clue who to root for. It’s a lose-lose situation to me.
No, it’s a win-win because not only does some prick get tooled, but he gets tooled by a prick which is humiliating in itself. Focus on the negative! There’s always a positive in jerks losing!

Yup I hot Hughes winning this. He’s just the better overall fighter.

I agree
I like Serra more as a person, but don’t see him winning. AS for Hughes, I respect what he’s done, but don’t like the man, he’s never going to get that belt around his waist again, he doesn’t have what it takes to beat GSP, or Thiago for that matter.
I really enjoyed his book...
It shed a lot of light on Matt Hughes the man. As did Liddell with his book. Both were very good I think.
Matt Hughes talkin' circles
“I’d love to get a rematch with Thiago.”
“I’d love to rematch GSP.”
and then…
“But all I’m worrying about right now is Matt Serra.”
Okay then. Coming from Matt “critical of everyone” Hughes, his double-talk is quite funny. Unfortunately Hughes can’t compete on the level with either of these guys now and Hughes star has faded. Hughes is no longer the draw he once was. Fabulous career nonetheless.
IF Matt Hughes beats Serra AND gets Thiago AND wins
then he may really deserve a rematch with GSP for the title…but there is alot of IFs in there.
Frankly, if he does beat Serra I’d like to see him fight Fitch.
On the TUF issue, the first time Serra was on TUF (as a contestant) I was very impressed with the impact he had on his team and their success. The second time I lost all respect for him with his conduct. Hughes was just Hughes…not exactly someone I would want to be around, but not someone I would specifically hate…but I don’t go out of my way to find out more about him.
Regardless, I hope this is a good fight.
Hughes-Fitch would be an interesting match. It would start to build Fitch back up from the undercard and really, REALLY force the passing of the batton in the WW division. When the former great champ gets smoked by the guy who got smoked by the current champ (as I predict would happen), it’s definitely ovah.

Couldn’t agree more with this. I was looking forward to seeing Serra as a coach because I thought he was phenomenal as a contestant-coaching and cornering teammates, etc. But then when he actually was a coach, he was just such a complete tool — but with a hot wife, I guess.
