Ryo Chonan has apparently been released by the UFC.
Along with the following fighters, Chonan's fighter profile and record has been removed from UFC.com:
David Bielkheden
Akihiro Gono
David Loiseau
Jason Macdonald
Vinny Magalhaes
On his most recent Kamipro blog (dated May 1st) Chonan says he's returned to Japan and doesn't know when he'll fight next due to "the wound of the thumb of the foot which does not heal." Above, he's eating with members of Japanese punk/psychobilly bands Pulling Teeth, Robin and Brahman.

Yeah, Gono too should be released now, so, Japan MMA should have them both back now, which will give them a HUGE boost. =)

Gono’s gone from the site, too. I’ll add him.

Who else would the Piranha be hanging out with, really?

They cut Macdonald? Really? That’s surprising and far more significant, to me, than Chonan being cut.

Especially in light of Dana White’s recent comments:
“Here’s the thing that we love,” White said in the post-UFC 97 press conference. “Anybody who goes out there and tries to fight – MacDonald is always awesome, man. He’s always in an exciting fight.”
“We want guys like Jason,” White said. “They come to fight.”

At the end of the day, it’s Joe Silva’s decision.

Yeah, I find it tough to believe that they cut both Mac and the Crow after Montreal. It seems like 97 was the cursed show; everybody either came out of it looking like shit, retiring, or getting cut.

Sad
Vinny Magalhaes turned out to be a pretty big disappointment.

That really sucks that Macdonald was cut. Hopefully he ends up in Strikeforce.

Actually, he said he was going to strikeforce.

Sucks for Loiseau...
… after fighting so hard to get back into the UFC. That being said, that was a pretty lousy performance he put in. Saw the fight last week, and all I can say is, what was he thinking? Trying to throw flashy kicks and flopping around on the mat half the time; the other half spent turtled and barely mounting any attempt to get back to his feet. Brutal. He looked old and just plain bad. I was hoping for a “Crow” come-back, but I guess it’s not to be.
I love me some Sexyama!

Pretty soon the UFC Japan page is going to be just Lyoto Machida if they don’t watch out.

I was thinking this also. BLOODYELBOW:http://jp.ufc.com
He’s still on the mainpage graphic of that site. You got to love that of the 5 fighters on it. One was cut, one Korean, one Brazilian, one doesn’t fight in the UFC and the other is a top 3 fighter who nickname should be “Undercard King”.
