Quote of the Day: Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
"It's just one of those moments where – you know I lost two fights in a row, and I was in a state where I told myself, 'There's no way I can lose this fight.'"-- Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou talks about his controversial ending at DREAM.9.
"I got [Nortje] on the ground, just like I thought I would do, and I was pounding and I didn't want to stop," Sokoudjou said. "But I should have stopped."
"There's no bad blood. He's been nice. We've run into each other, and every time he's always been a gentlemen. I feel like a douchebag doing it. I'm really sorry for it."

Kudos for him owning up to it.

I’m willing to chalk this one up to desperation and adrenaline combining to make him temporarily lose his shit. Next time, not so much.

Sorry, Sok. You landed a half dozen punches on a defenseless opponent through a referee. Glad you’re sorry but I don’t want to see you sanctioned in this country anytime soon.
I’m thinking six months or a year – that sounds about right.

Three weak shots at best. I’m not condoning the behavior, but it isn’t like they were giant elbows on an unconscious opponent. I’d give anyone one shot at the bell, the last two were definitely unnecessary. A big guy like Jan can take those shots and not get injured…if it was another 205’er or smaller dude, due to the tourney, I’d be upset, but people are making a little more out of this than necessary, in my opinion.
Watch it again. He threw at least 6. The size of the the guy he was hitting is totally and completely irrelevant. So is the damage the blows actually inflicted. The shots thrown after the ref stepped in were ALL out of line and there’s no place for it in MMA. This is black and white here, brother. It wasn’t 2 guys going toe to toe throwing leather in the center of the ring as the bell rang. It was a guy out on his back under protection of the referee with another guy raining hammers down on him.
I’m not into making examples out of guys, but this is exactly the kind of behavior we can’t have. While we spend our time trying to sell MMA as a sport between athletes and not as thugs trying to kill each other we need to take incidents as this seriously and to put the smack down on Sok just as hard has he did on Nortje.

hit him in the pocket book
Fight orgs really have to start fining fighters for doing this. It seems to be happening more frequently and is starting to be like a “touchdown dance” when you win by knockout. It won’t stop until there’s genuine disincentive.
A wise man told me don't argue with fools
Cause people from a distance can't tell who is who
That’s unacceptable, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Here’s the video for those who want to see it.
Is there any question this was a work?
Seriously guys, the Sapp fight was worked totally, you don’t think these Japanese promoters would like to portray Soko as the African Savage?
This shit happens all the time in Japan, I’m surprised more ppl haven’t seen through this act.
i'm glad he apologized
but it’s still unacceptable. 1st time fine, 2nd time suspension should be the rule.
