UFC President Dana White Announces "UFC Undisputed 2010" at Spike Video Game Awards

Ufc-undisputed-game1_mediumGamers rejoice:

UFC President Dana White took the stage at the 2009 Video Game Awards (VGA) airing on Spike TV last Thursday, May 28 at 11PM ET for one of his patented ’special announcements.’

With UFC 98: "Evans vs. Machida" officially in the books and the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) right around the corner (which not coincidentally airs on Spike TV), one of the going rumors was the official announcement of next season’s coaches.

White dropped a similar bomb in a cameo at the 2007 VGA’s, confirming a rumor that Forrest Griffin and Quinton Jackson would go mano-y-mano on season seven.

Instead, White kept with the video game theme and informed viewers that THQ would be releasing ‘UFC Undisputed 2010,’ a sequel to the immensely popular ‘2009′ version that hit shelves earlier this month to the delight of fans and gamers worldwide.

With the franchise format, each iteration has the real ability to improve gameplay overtime while properly building out of a firm foundation. My hope for the next iteration is a south paw stance, better cage tactics, more fighters, some sort of incorporation of "The Ultimate Fighter" format and whatever else the brain trust at THQ can cook up. I'm sure others have their wish lists as well.

Excellent news for gamers, the UFC and MMA in general. Many of my non-MMA enjoying friends have contacted me to express their love of this game. Here's to hoping with some improvement and streamlining the success continues.

And better stand up, cause the fighters are slow they can’t move well in the cage, it’s like everyone had lost their footork. I like the idea of TUF. I think we need to begin our career in fake sub organisation then goes up to the UFC through TUF (or not).
Because as of now, you enter the UFC with weaker stats than dave kaplan and it’s really hard not to get destroyed by the first big names you encounter.

This was a thought I had as well. A fake sub organization you fight your way through.

Fighter attitudes

i think they should also do some generic voice over for characters so that we can do video pre fight interviews. obviously it would only be certain phrases but the choice of what phrase to use will ultimately decide if your fighter is humble or if he is cocky

Every other year would be preferable ultimately, I think. At least after they sort out the cage work/south paw stuff next year.

If you’d be willing to pay for roster patches (new fighters), you may as well buy an updated, improved game each year.

My Xbox died this week…. I had the two free fighters to download because of the pre-order and had to download the NXE and it fried my video card. No video or audio now…

Good times. =\ Atleast the Wii is still kicking… my Xbox 360 was from 2005, oldschool.

Wow first RROD since 2005? What a champ! Mine lasted for a good while too. 2005 model. Luckily they send it back fixed within a week running way quieter too! :)

I wanted to echo the sentiment about non-MMA fans. A co-worker of mine played it & said the game was awesome. I don’t have a 360 or PS3 so I can’t even comment.

But then they get taken to the ground and they sell their game ASAP lol.
Knowing about mma is actually very usefull if you know how to use the controller of course.

Agreed one of my freinds is so bitter becuase he loves MMA yet has no PS360 and one of his friends has the game and isn’t even an MMA fan and says he’s addicted to the game. :)

Lots of polish

Almost every area can use a little work. Some of the character models are spot on, and some not so much. And in the career mode, it would be nice if the emails and in-fight commentary, acknowledged your career: rematches, avenging losses, expectations.

I have 2 issues with the game. Quitting in ranked and the fact that someone can keep you in the mount postion over and over and over again without getting tired of blocking you when you try to transition.

There are players out there that only try to do this and thats stupid as hell. I’m like why are you even playing if your just going to do the same move? Yesterday I had someone quit on me on a player match right when I beat him. I sent him a message asking him why would he quit in A PLAYER MATCH?!! lmao! I love everything else about it. I love when someone is commited to mixing it up and the fight goes everywhere. Awesome stuff!

My thing...

you should be able to threaten with submissions. I’ve noticed it doesn’t bother the non-hardcore fans who just enjoy the game. But for me as a hardcore fan, I don’t expect to hit a sub every time I try one…but going for a sub should not automatically put you in a bad position if it is defended.

If you want to threaten with a sub you can click the left stick before it fails and you won’t be in bad position. 2-3 more weeks til my 360 is returned Un-Red ringed :(

Nah, you’re good to go if you go out and buy a new one at Best Buy or somewhere where they get regular shipments in. The new models have smaller chips and better heatsinks now.

My Thing...

They need to overhaul the multiplayer. Better lobbies, online tournaments, better interface. Gameplay wise, select diff subs for each fighter. When you pick a fighter, have a choice to pick either a kneebar or an anklelock….

by JVelez on May 29, 2009 10:37 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They need to patch the quitting in ranked matches which doesn’t give you a win. It sucks when you’ve had a great fight, you win and suddenly you see [disconnected] and it doesn’t take you to the screen that levels you up. :(

It’s easy to spot the people that do it too. They usually have really good records like 30-2 or 50-10 and 10-15 win streaks. Ridiculous.

Everythign you said +1

Also, In the demo when Chuck knocked out Shogun with a short elbow he stumbled around and then performed a 16th-century 360-degree spinning stage death.

We’re waiting for 2010 to get on board. Not paying 60 bucks for a beta.

If everyone waited for the next one, there wouldn’t be a second one though.

by spectaa on May 29, 2009 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't know how to respond to that

Are you serious or are you joking?

With game dev contracts including MetaCritic scores and sales as a basis for bonuses and pay, the almighty dollar is my only vote. I don’t use it to vote for games that’re rushed out before they’re ready. Producers will say that a game sold great, so why change what works for you? So your logic, while loving and supportive, is actually counter-productive to my goal of playing a game that’s worth my money.

I don’t just give up my money because a questionable game company wants it. Any manufacturer has to produce products that I find to be worth my money.

But I’m glad you want to support MMA via games and I hope that we do get some good ones in a few years. Nouvelle AI is coming and shits gonna get better. Plus with some better usability design and motion control for the characters this could easily push the sport into the next level. But this game is not the game for me. I’m glad everyone else seems to be enjoying it, though.

by asa on May 29, 2009 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What he said was fairly simple. If everyone waited for the next iteration, that is to say, no one bought this version, then there wouldnt be an sequel as it would get canned for low sales.

by -Sam on May 29, 2009 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

So everyone can’t wait for a quality game, they should just buy whatever is put in front of them?

by asa on May 29, 2009 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The keyword being everyone. If 10 people bought the game worldwide, a game that cost millions and years to develop, then quite rightly we wouldnt see a sequel. All spectaa said was that if the majority took your view than this would happen, and thats correct.
Not that theres anything wrong with your view mind, and I actually agree to it to some degree, and in isolation it causes no issues.

Seriously though

Are you guys suggesting that people voting with their dollar on a wide scale would be bad? Or not liking the main feature of a game (the game play) being a reason not to purchase?

It sounds like in an effort to support the sport you’re suggesting both.

by asa on May 29, 2009 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It wouldnt be if a sequel was guaranteed. But more than likely any sequel is predicated on positive sales numbers for the first game, so yes in this instance, if the majority voted with their dollar it would be bad for those who wish to see further games in this series.

by -Sam on May 29, 2009 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I disagree that undisputed is a beta version. It is pretty glich free. I have seen one funky glitch where the fighters started wrapping around each other at the end of a round that ended during a submission attempt, it was pretty trippy. But the Sega NBA 2K games weren’t as polished as undisputed even after a few years.

by Dropkick434 on May 29, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My main issues are step-planning/basic motion and the actual animations and content rather than glitches. I personally don’t like the feel of moving the characters around in the ring and striking. Grappling wasn’t great either, but the striking engine really let me down. They had neat controls set up, but didn’t follow through with the “animotion” system to put them into use. Just felt plodding to me.

they did fantastic work on the martial artists though. They look great, which is why I await the next game where they’ve said they’ll focus on gameplay a bit more.

Maybe a little more meat to the career mode, it doesn’t need to be a WWE game but maybe some stuff to draw u in. After year five it got old fighting Nog, Mir, Brock, and Vera over and over so maybe something else to keep me interested.

by despisedIcon856 on May 29, 2009 11:12 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

1) fix the endless menu transitions (loading, checking disk, loaded ok, loaded…)
2) write an actual interface for the career mode, the menus and layout are terrible.
3) better fighter customization
4) lobby for online mode
5) more fighters
6) less odd “ko for no reason”, I’m okay with it but make it happen a lot less
6) make submissions a little less unlikely, esp in career mode

by pr0cs on May 29, 2009 12:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Personally I love the flash K.O., its frustrating to have the computer land it on you but it makes the fight more realistic. If you throw a hook and your opponent ducks it and connects with his own at exactly the right time from the right distance it should knock you out. There is a reason Machida is the only undefeated champion.

8) Illegal moves and point deductions (grab the cage, ball shot, grab the shorts, etc)
9) Head movement (this is too easy – just make the takedown stick into bob/weave when you’re blocking)

I always assumed that ‘Undisputed’ was just the tag for the 209 version and we would see a new one for the next iteration (much like the UFC events). Guess not.

fix the creating a fighter

not a big deal, but i would love to know who designed it. they give you 4 options for a general face, and some other limited stuff, but i think there is something like 39 different eye brows you can have? Who the hell knows what a fighter’s eye brow looks like (besides Eddie Alvarez)? some other weird stuff too like the extra menu which has 25 options that are just creepy. variations in trunks and hair styles would be good. Instead of 8 different versions of a crew cut try a real mohawk or other stuff like that (e.g. Clay Guida’s hair).

and i really like the idea of a more indepth career mode like utilizing TUF or something. It will bring in more non-MMA fans with a story line or something there.

Actually this is exactly what I expected and wanted. The games can only get better everytime! Maybe next year they do live stats like NBA2K9 or something else really great. Madden games come out every year but I don’t buy it every year. This year Madden will finally have Online Co-op so you AND your friends can play on the same team against other people online. You can play as QB and your friend can play WR or RB. I bought Madden 2006, Madden 2008 and I might be buying 2010 because of this. You don’t always have to buy the new game but if it has new mechanics/way prettier grafx/better online and its worth it then yeah I’ll plunk down.

i like this. 2009 is good but its basically the Beta version. Go look at Madden when it first started and look at madden 2010. night and day. i want to be able to do cage work…im shocked its not part of the game. cage work is big part of octagon fighting. create fighter tweak it a little have more ways to edit your fighter more looks more fight styles. I personally would like entrances…big part of PPV’s. have custom track option so u can put ur own kind of music with ur fighter. there is a lot they can do and im sure they are already working on it. I know with most annually games they start working on the next as soon as they finish the previous.

it’ll be nice to have an updated roster.of course we’ll probably lose Arlovski,Sylvia,Ortiz,Tanner and some of the older guys (of course to ufc Chuck Liddell is god so he’ll be in every game lol).
But it’ll be nice to see Couture,Carwin,Cane,Jon Jones,Condit,Escudero,Bader,Akiyama, and Overeem if he signs.
and having Wandy in middleweight.
I’ll be happy as long as they make Rashad not look like a skiny twig next time and have his ankle tape along with Shogun’s white trunks(but then again im not nitpicking

better submission system so its not impossible to pull off for the average person(i dont mind the difficulty in getting out of the sub

and yeah the ability to dirty clinch somebody next to the cage, make the fighter have a little better movement, make the slams seem a bit more idk epic, and a career mode where I can take any of the real fighters into it

by justizzer on May 29, 2009 3:56 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs
