And i'm pretty stoked about it.
I'm from Vegas, so MMA is a very popular sport. And there are a ton of different gyms down here, from XC to Cobra Kai to Team Xcel to Warrior Training Center to Wanderlei's new gym. Fortunately enough for me, I live less than 5 miles from Randy's gym.
Just thought that i'd kind of relay the experience to you guys: I woke up at 8, got some breakfast, and headed over to XC's. Then, I did 3 classes in a row (all 1 hour long)- Muay Thai, BJJ, and Boxing. Now, I do have a decent amount of Jiu Jitsu experience, because I went to Legion BJJ (great Jits place, if you're in the area) which is headed by Cameron Diffley (Forrest's BJJ coach for TUF). However, prior to today, i'd never had any formal MT/ Boxing training, so it pretty much kicked my ass.
I must say, though, the teachers were very good, the people taking the classes were all pretty good, and the atmosphere was really chill and inviting. Also, it was pretty badass to see guys like Grey Maynard and Kampmann walking around. Something that surprised me was that Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman have been training at Xtreme Couture's, and they were pretty much rolling the whole time in the cage, while I was taking the classes.
One thing I have to say is, Randleman is FUCKING YOKED, and I honestly have no idea how he's making 185. Interestingly enough, Mike Whitehead isn't with Xtreme Couture any longer, but he's training with Wand at his new gym (which i'm assuming is why Randleman is training at XC). In between rolling, sparring, shadow boxing, and wailing on the heavy bag, I watched the two of them roll (Coleman and Randleman), and they were going at it HARD for a couple hours. One time, I looked over, and Coleman had Randleman in a deep kneebar that tapped him.
But yeah, just kind of a random story that I wanted to tell the BE community. If you live in the Vegas area, and are wondering about the quality of instruction at XC, or want to chat me up at all, feel free to send me a PM.
