"La Cheetah"

get ready to hear that a couple hundred times over the next six months.

I should post the video I took of Rampage after the fight

He didn’t look nearly as excited about facing “La Cheetah”

Robert Joyner’s thoughts regarding this video at MMAPayout.com

Rampage’s slapping of folks is the stuff of legend on message boards…but along with his other various acts, stuff like this make me think more and more MMA may have its’ own James Butler Situation on its’ hands. Let’s hope it doesn’t progress that far, and there isn’t a Sam Kellerman equivalent. Business expediency makes people embrace "delerium", but I honestly think other, larger issues at play here.

I don’t understand these references and that makes me feel dumb. Someone please explain.

Nevermind; Wikipedia has enlightened me. Uhm. Rather horrible story; seems like a bit of a stretch to compare the two, doesn’t it?

Sensationalize much, MMA Payout?

IMO, it’s shit like this that gives blogs a bad name. Spouting off on the guy’s capacity for murder based on some very spotty conjecture is pretty irresponsible.

exactly

if anything, it looked like rampage might’ve been a bit drunk and slap happy. the internet can turn anything into a story.

Very entertaining video. I like the slaps to the face and the new nickname for Machida.

It looked like Rampage may have been on some pain medication for his jaw.

Yea he was definitely under the influence of something…probably not going to go over too well.

by CliChe Guevara on May 26, 2009 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

not go over well??

screw that! I dare say not one Pride-era Jackson fan that saw this interview didn’t giggle like a school girl. Reminds me of the first interview I saw of his… this stuff only builds fanbase. luckily dana white runs UFC so the cursing can never be a problem, either. Plus an honest interview like that only brings humility to the athletes, ie. admitting to peaking 3 WEEKS before the Jardine fight… crazy

haha

could Machida and Rampage be any more fundamentally different?

I’m already excited for this fight. I like both guys, but when it comes down to it, I’ll always root for the guy that doesn’t talk smack about his opponent’s skills.

by Grappo on May 26, 2009 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Would you consider Machida stating “No one can defend me” smack talk on his opponents skills. I may be slightly off on the exact statement but you get the idea.

That Payout article is pathetic. I wouldn’t be surprised if the relentlessly litigious UFC have words…

I thought that was an embarrassingly fanboyish interview on Ariel’s part. What was that mess at the beginning? “Do you remember me, Rampage?” Why is that relevant to anything?

by a tommy point on May 27, 2009 12:57 AM EDT reply actions

Calm down. The interview was hilarious.

by Sam Cupitt on May 27, 2009 2:18 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t find the razor sharp wit of Rampage to be all that entertaining, or sharp for that matter. Everything boils down to jokes about his balls or physically imposing himself on whoever. Not much comedy there.

by a tommy point on May 27, 2009 5:10 AM EDT up reply actions

Let the guy be remembered. Hell he works for VS for heavens sake. Dude should get some sort of recognition, even if his name is Ariel. He does need to grow some balls though and grab that microphone back and say something like “There’s gonna be some black on black crime with this here black microphone and you if you don’t give it back to me.”
