Vladimir Matyushenko Defeats Jason Lambert at Call To Arms I
According to MMAJunkie.com, UFC and IFL veteran Vladimir Matyushenko was able to outlast UFC veteran Jason Lambert and win via unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California:
"The Janitor" survived a brief scare in the final frame but claimed victory on all three judges' cards.
Matyushenko seemed in control of the action throughout most of the contest, though Lambert did offer a submission attempt in the second frame and scored with a series of blows in the third.
It wasn't enough to outpoint the Belarusian, and Lambert was nearly shut out – two of three judges awarded Matyushenko all three rounds, while the third gave "The Punisher" just one stanza.
This pushes Jason Lambert's record even farther south as he's lost 5 out of his last 6 bouts. He definitely needs to evolve his game from the one-dimensional style to a much more dynamic skillset. Unfortunately, we haven't see improved striking from Lambert, and his wrestling was obviously not enough to counter the venerable Matyushenko.
The rest of the event went as follows:
Vladimir Matyushenko def. Jason Lambert via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
Tiki Ghosn def. Brian Warren via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Daniel Puder def. Jeff Frod via TKO (injury) - Round 1, 1:23
Karen Darabedyan def. Jose Camacho vis TKO (cut) - Round 1, 5:00
Toby Grear def. Mike Sandez via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Georgi Karakhanyan def. Albert Rios via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Chad George def. Alvin Cacdac via split decision (30-27, 30-27, 28-29)
Matt Major def. Jaime Fletcher via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Brett Cooper def. Joe Cronin via TKO (cut) - Round 2, 1:17
Jay Silva def. Reggie Orr via TKO (flying knee) - Round 2, 1:41
Sevak Magakian def. Harold Lucambio via submission (heel hook) - Round 1, 1:59
Francisco Rivera def. Johnny Gomez via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)

Matyushenko by decision is a shocker.
But in all seriousness, this fight was just a horrible style match-up for Lambert. He apparently did alright in the tihrd round, almost having Larry Landless (he still refs?) stop the fight when he was pounding away on Matyushenko in his guard but he was always going to be outpointed by Matyushenko if the fight went the distance. The janitors takedown attack is just relentless because that’s pretty much all he has.

Hmm.. it’s interesting to see that out of 12 fights, they only had 2 real finishes.. The others were cuts, decisions and an injury..

I think this shows that the time of knockouts and submission in MMA is coming to an end. Fighters are becoming too well trained and are no longer susceptible to any form of finish.

Make a chart – it lends crappy arguments like that more credence

I shall take my data from a couple of the few hundred cards recently where that was no finish, and make a dramatic looking graph to prove my points.

While I have no reason sight-unseen to believe you, if this means that every fight will be a technical war for 15 minutes, sign me up.

Poor Vladdy
His loss to Little Nog (and in a snoozefest to boot) killed his last shot at getting back into the UFC. Maybe Strikeforce will want him but he’s a real threat to layNPary even the toughest contender and won’t be an attraction himself.

Has Larry Landless been seen in the octagon since the Baroni-Tanner fiasco at UCF 45? Lambert ain’t having a career year…

Matt Major...
wasn’t he the guy on the Tapout Show who almost kicked some little guys ass backstage?

I just rewatched Lambert knocking Sobral out. I think that was early ‘07. It’s been a bad two years for Lambert.
