Chris Wilson Survives Armed Robbery in Brazil
Promoted from the FanPosts by Kid Nate.
Chris Wilson has been training for his UFC 98 fight against Brock Larson in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has lived there for most of his life and everything has been going on without a hitch, until last Wednesday. According to the Canadian Press, a group of men held him up at gun point:
"As I came into the apartment complex, a guy held me up at gunpoint and then he called his friends. And then a total of five people came up to the apartment. They were armed and my family was in the bathroom - I've got two kids - so it was just a terrible situation. They were after small stuff, but they took our TV and my laptop, and jewelry. And they took some of the kids' clothing and Nike tennis shoes... Then they put everything in my car, made me take them somewhere. It was just terrible. Wasn't sure if I was coming back from that one. But it all worked out."
This situation really reminds me of the Brandon Vera and Lloyd Irvin incident, but this time, the robbers got what they wanted. However, I can't blame Chris Wilson for doing the smart thing by not risking the lives of his wife and two kids.
The fight will still go on as planned. One could just hope that he and his family isn't too shaken up about the whole ordeal.
"I've been training, I'm ready to fight. It's just that kind of thing is a little bit heavy on your shoulders."

I heard the Brandon Vera and Lloyd Irvin story was fake and there was no real proof it happened.
Glad Chris made it out of the situation unharmed and that his family is ok. He did his job by making sure they weren’t harmed, material things aren’t worth anything in the long run.
Actually it is a serious post….. there was no posting of any 911 calls when that initial story about Vera and Irvin when I saw…. I haven’t heard anything about it since this article about Chris Wilson.
How bout you settle down…. I didn’t know there was any 911 recordings…. I didn’t seek anything further about the matter after I found out that Vera and Irvin were fine and not seriously injured.

Props to Chris for not over valuing his stuff and under valuing his family. In Brazil, it seems, people don’t fear being caught enough to kill, they mostly just want your stuff or money. Something has to go wrong for them to kill. In PG county and Bmore, thats not really the case.
Thank you sir, I’ll check it out when I can get to a computer w/ speakers.

Me settle down? I genuinely thought it was some kind of sarcasm. How about trying to not be a sheep and doing a little bit of reading? I wonder what it is with people like you who are on the internet that can’t seem to find information by yourselves. You say you’re glad no one got hurt, but yet your assumption is that it’s fake because that’s what you “heard”? Come on.
It was something that I read elsewhere where the whole situation maybe false….
I forgot to put a question mark after it as I was seeking clarification and wasn’t attacking anyone.
I actually can’t stand people like yourself who seem to jump on people for unwarranted reasons. So how bout you quit being asshole.

As an objective bystander, I disagree with your assertion that he is being an asshole. If anyone is coming off as a jerk in this exchange, it is you. Not that I am calling you a jerk, but I would back off if I were you. I don’t think there was anything unreasonable about LiuLang’s first post. And you should stop beleaving everything you read on deadspin.
Not gonna argue...
I will take your words to heart and move on.

Cut it out...
Just cut the crap guys. It’s a stupid issue to be arguing over. The Irvin ordeal was real. Move on.

Guy has a beautiful wife and little boy… no reason for him to fight off armed burglars. Good to see everything worked out.

Im a college student and I was a victom of a home invasion a little over a year ago.
I was at a buddie’s house and got a knock at the door a little after 11pm, 3 masked men with pistols. It was a college town so the timing was a shock. We were pepper sprayed and held face down by 2 men while another got my friends cash/computer. they took all of our cell phones and keys so we couldnt leave or call the cops after they left. It was truly scary stuff, and i personally didnt feel right for a few weeks.
I could not imagine the same situation if i had kids or a wife in harms way!
I have to give props to him for not letting this affect his fight preparation. Its an earth shaking experience, and he must be a very mentally tough guy. best of luck at 98!

I am a very unstable person when it comes to authority figures. In the same situation if I was single, no attachments, I’d probably try to fight these guys and get my ass shot. That’s just my dumbass adrenaline-laden mentality when it comes to crap like that.
But I have a son now, and I couldn’t even imagine that nowadays. If someone invaded my home and tried to harm him, there would be no amount of restraint that would stop me from curbstomping a burglar and chucking him off my 8 story balcony onto the street.
But in this case, I would just comply. Not worth it at all.

I heard several “you shoulda roundhouse kicked the gun outta his hand, and beat his ass” responses after my experience. but my friend answered the door in another room so i was just on the couch and heard “whoa whoa whoa!!!” and when i looked up there was a gun in my face, so i had no time to think or move.
These cats were legit though… ski masks, gloves, pepper spray so we couldnt see em. but youre right, usually, USUALLY nothing tragic will happen if you just comply. You have to swallow your pride in exchange for you or your family’s safety. I would have done the same exact thing if i had a family locked in a bathroom… couldnt risk your child growing up w/out a dad.

LOL, fuck that. Ski masks, gloves…
These scenarios always come up around here. They have transplanted hardened criminals down here as part of a plan for our city to get money from the State government. So, crime has risen.
Since I work out a lot, run a lot on the bike trails here, many of them get far out toward the projects, prime place to get jumped. Houses get robbed, etc. I always wonder what my whole stance would be if it happened at my home. I won’t use a gun in the house for fear my child gets into it.
My only real concern is that my best friend, who I love to death, is psycho when it comes to authority. He’s proven it time and time again. We got carjacked in Chicago at knifepoint, and he simply grabbed the guys arm, rolled the window up, clamped his arm on the door, and proceeded to drive 45 mph down the street, scaring the shit outta this guy. Funny, but he almost got stabbed in the throat. I can only imagine what crazy shit he’d try if he were watching TV with me at my place and a burglary happened.

That is funny Leland,
but why are you referring to guys attempting to jack you as “authority figures”? lol
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
Generally the man with the weapon is the authority at the moment.
A man should never waste an opportunity to keep his mouth shut.
I guess, but
generally when someone speaks about authority figures it is not simply because they are armed, lol.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
Authority figures would be whoever is in control I suppose.
The two stories I constantly tell over and over are the carjacking incident and the incident in which I got tackled while running on the trail and produced a sloppy ass armbar that broke a guy’s arm in self-defense as he went for my phone and wallet. It’s like everytime I go to a party, a friend introduces me as “And this is my friend I was telling you about, he clowned some guy who tried to rob him.”
It gets a bit old, and they make it out like I’m some sort of MMA legend or something. I’m not kidding you, shittiest armbar ever.
My other buddy is referred to as “The fucking psycho” when he’s introduced for the carjacking incident, but nobody screws with him, so I guess that’s good.

Just a question....
What is Chris Wilson doing living in Rio De Janeiro? I remember hearing Rogan and Goldberg talking about it during one of his fights and I don’t remember the specifics…. is it purely for training purposes or is there another reason?
I know that Rio can be a great vacation spot but I haven’t heard of too many picking up their families and moving there considering the “dark side” of Rio De Janeiro.
he's there to train BJJ
"the spirit of your average dumbass with more overblown rhetoric" OR "the self-appointed savior of MMA"
He grew up there And has been training and living there for years..

I could be wrong
but I think his wife and kids are Brazilians, and Chris has been living here most of his life.
It's just stuff.
I’ve been in a situation where I was robbed. Buddy of mine and I were cornered by a group of kids. There were seven of them. It was late, and there was no telling if they had concealed weapons or not. I suppose we could have tried to fight them off, but what would have been the point? They took some cash from us and my friend got a split lip from a headbutt, but thankfully, that was all that happened.
Afterwards, I felt both humiliated and violated. That was the first time I ever felt like a victim and I was furious. My friend was more volatile, breaking things, swearing, even crying. When I look back on it now, I think we did the right thing by not fighting back. In that situation, we lost some money and stuff, but in the end, we were still in one piece. This is noting compared to what Chris went through. I’ve never had a gun pulled on me and I can’t imagine what it would be like when your family is there. Chris did the right thing and kudos to him. I’m glad it worked out for the best. He can always buy a new computer.
Side note: We went to the police afterwards and one of the cops took us for a ride in his car, trying to see if we could spot them in the neighborhood. Eventually he turned to us and said, “Even if we catch them, nothing will really happen. What you should do is get a group of friends and hunt them down.” True story.
I love me some Sexyama!
