what a moron

Reilly has obviously not educated himself about MMA (despite his claims that he has) and his inability to stick with a consistent argument against legalizing MMA in NY is suspicious.

Btw, LOVE Ariel Helwani in this.

I tried to watch this. But the production value is just so awkwardly poor. The start bit was fine, then the womens MMA girl confused me, and then they hit the table and I was just bashing my head against the wall.

So yeah…was there anything of note?

LOL

to be honest, its only worth watching if you enjoy some government shmuck making blanketed and unfounded statements about the sport you love… he DID say he would be willing to go to a show HOWEVER (as Ariel pointed out) he said he had never been invited to a show which I find very, very hard to believe. Dana (I’m sure) has probably invited to fly him to any of the shows and I’m sure Reilly declined (probably with some lame excuse). I imagine he [Reilly] won’t attend any show and will continue to refer to MMA as “ultimate fighting”… ugh

x2 with the Ariel Helwani points of view. I’m not accusing him of boxing favoritism, but something doesn’t pass the smell test about Bob’s position on professional boxing. I also agree with Bob’s stance on the poor argument of “well if sport X is violent, then why can’t MMA exist?” However, he really should attend an event and stop referring to the sport as “Ulitimate Fighting”. Lastly, how the “F” did he get the right to preside over the hearings of whether or not MMA should arrive in NYC?

I like Mike Straka’s even handed round table. Good show.

Don't believe the hype

Yet another shady politician trying to get his name out there at the expense of something else. I’d bet anyone a quarter that he could care less about MMA in NY. He’s just trying to pull a McCain and use MMA as his milestone. Only thing is, I think McCain was genuinely interested, and this fool has blatantly ulterior motives. He can’t be THAT out of touch to not see the UFC’s success.

Ugh. Can’t truss ’em.

This guy knows nothing about MMA. I really wanted them to touch on the likelihood of injury in an MMA match compared to a boxing match. As we all know, in amateur boxing (regardless of headgear being worn) you get a standing 8 count when you are KTFO’d. In MMA the match is over. With submissions, your opponent has the option to TAP when they are being submitted and/or the ref will stop the fight if it looks to be dangerous for the person being submitted (ex armbar, arm looks like it will break). Why didn’t the panel mention any of this? I know it would probably be pointless. I guarantee that the lobbyists that he speaks of have never been given the opportunity to educate him on the sport of MMA. He probably shut the door on their faces. If they did have an opportunity to educate, he probably sat there “closed minded” and didn’t listen or watch.

You want to strangle people like this who only go off of their own personal views and think that they are the end all say all of situations like this. The majority of his points regarding MMA or “Ultimate Fighting” as he call it, are invalid.
