Reminder: Sengoku VIII Liveblog, Saturday at 3AM EDT / 12AM PDT
Just a quick reminder that myself and the BE Night Crew will be up in full force for live results and discussion of the HDNet-broadcast Sengoku VIII beginning at 3AM EDT / 12 AM PDT on Saturday morning (aka late night tonight). World Victory Road's latest outing takes place at Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo and features four great bouts in the second round of the Sengoku Featherweight Grand Prix, as well as a possible lightweight title eliminator between Kazunori Yokota and Leonardo Santos, prospects like Xande Ribeiro, Maximo Blanco, Stanislav Nedkov and more.
In the meantime, be sure to check out:
- the show's final fight card and bout order
- Tony Loiseleur's enlightening chat with Sengoku rep Takahiro Kokuho
- Leland Roling's Weekend Primer (Part 1 & Part 2) and Betting Preview
- Nightmare Of Battle's "Final Preparations" post
- Loiseleur's brand new piece on Shigeki Osawa and the Japanese tabloids' role in MMA

Chris… Check out Loiseleur’s new article up about Osawa…
He works at Don Quijote, loves Tupac Shakur enough to tattoo his body up… has a bunch of interesting tidbits along with the tabloid boom promoting Osawa as the next big thing.

haha yeah, I was just reading that. A while ago, I heard they got Osawa and Blanco both jobs at Don Quijote.

Blanco should be customer service. Who would try to get a refund from that ball of muscle?

Thanks for the plug guys...
Keep checking the blog for more bits and pieces from Kokuho that didn’t make the word limit of my interview article. (^_^)b

Quick notes from the presser:
- Nam Phan said he wants to tap Michihiro Omigawa via the Kadowaki Special. Phan knocked Hideki Kadowaki out of the tournament in the first round, but said he is a big fan and would like to borrow his signature submission, which is a modified rear naked choke from the crucifix position.
- Ronnie Mann says that he had no problem with the size of Tetsuya Yamada, and it won’t be an issue with Hatsu Hioki. Earlier in the week, Mann goaded Hioki (through the media) to stand and trade with him.
- The winner of Maximo Blanco vs. Akihiko Mori could be in title contention after the winner of Santos/Yokota gets their shot at Satoru Kitaoka in August. This is far too soon to be rushing Blanco into the title picture, IMO.

Wow, Japanese meat grinder at its finest. Blanco isn’t ready

Is there a poster for this event? I would like to see it if there is.

It’s weird, I never saw a hi res version of it online. You can see the Sengoku Girls holding it up here though.
by Chris Nelson on May 1, 2009 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well I guess I’ll have to wait for the hi-res one as it would be blesphimous for me to crop the ring girls out.
I remember I had trouble finding Sengoku 7’s poster around the time of the event too but I found it pretty easily now when I was in search of this events one. It isn’t as snazzy as the DREAM ones but it still makes the UFC posters look like crayon drawings.

Hey look at that...

Just found it on the Don Quijote site.

My bad.
It is definitely Saturday morning… approximately… 16 hours from now.

He either punches you in the mouth, touches the ball above the cylinder, or takes a fade away jumper and gets it blocked by a PG. Whats not to like? =)

Uh oh, I see smoogy coming in and berating me for my hatred of basketball ruining my sports. All in all, the game was pretty phenomenal.

He choked like a dog in that game. Then smiled about his most recent fail as he walked off the court.
He better fix this mess.

I was wondering the same thing. Judging from the poster above, this should be happening late tonight/early Saturday.

MIDNIGHT TODAY for PST, 3AM EST…
Although, there was about an hour delay last time, so don’t be surprised!

I sooo want to do this, but I got 6hrs sleep total in the past 72 hrs, so I may not be awake for it.

Just do it. Then you can have the bragging rights of 6 hours of sleep in the last 92 hours, which you can round to 100 if you so please.

I have work tomorrow, but I’ll be there. Everybody remember to brink some sort of drink to pour out on the ground for King Mo.

Heh...
I’m taking the SAT’s in the morning. I’m taking the calculator that the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs gave me for being the only sixteen year old at orientation.
Seven years ago.

What was seven years ago – starting college? Why are you taking the SATs now?
