Brock Larson Likely to Replace Koscheck Against Chris Wilson at UFC 98

Less than a week removed from his dominant submission victory over Jesse Sanders at UFN 18, former WEC welterweight title contender Brock Larson will likely replace Josh Koscheck against Chris Wilson at UFC 98, after Koscheck suffered a foot injury in training last week.  MMA Weekly has the report:

With Josh Koscheck's exit from UFC 98 with a foot injury, it appears that Minnesota Martial Arts Academy welterweight Brock Larson will step in to replace him and face Team Nogueira fighter Chris Wilson.

The news comes from sources close to the fight that indicated bout agreements have not been signed at this point, but the fight has been offered and accepted by Chris Wilson.

Wilson (14-5, 1-2 UFC) is a former Team Quest fighter who now trains with Team Nogueira in Brazil, and was impressive in his debut at UFC 82 against Jon Fitch, despite a decision loss.  Since then, Wilson used his dynamic striking and takedown defense to win a decision over Steve Bruno at UFC 87, but came up short at UFC 94 in a split decision loss to John Howard in a bout where both fighters garnered "Fight of the Night" honors.

Larson (25-2, 2-1 UFC) is a powerhouse wrestler out of Minnesota Martial Arts Academy, who has combined extremely heavy hands with unstoppable takedowns and excellent submissions to compile a outstanding career record, with his only losses coming to top-ten welterweights Carlos Condit and Jon Fitch.  Most recently, Larson returned to the UFC at UFN 18 where he submitted newcomer Jesse Sanders in dominant fashion.  Despite only a month-and-a-half betwen that fight and UFC 98 on May 23rd, conditioning has never been an issue for Larson and he will likely be well prepared for Wilson.

It remains to be seen whether the Larson vs. Wilson bout will remain on the televised card, or if it will be bumped down to the prelim card and replaced by another fight.

Eff

Great fight, but I feel bad for Wilson. I really like both of these guys, but Larson should win this.

He’ll probably have a better chance against Larson than Koscheck.

That depends on whether or not Larson decides to throw punches while staring at the ground.

I disagree

Larson is just going to take him down and brutalize him. Koscheck has fallen in love with his striking, which would have given Wilson a decent chance.

Also

This better be televised. It’s a great fight and Larson needs to get televised exposure.

Bad fight for Wilson, Larson is a beast and is going to make some noise in the UFC WW division.

no breaks for Wilson

he really blew it by not beating Howard when he was supposed to — although Howard had a lot to do with that!

No doubt

He really should have won that fight. It’ll be rough to potentially see him at 1-3 in the UFC after this fight, though.
