Lesnar Doesn't Believe Mir

I_cfc_medium

via media.ufc.tv

As reported by MMAjunkie.com

A knee surgery Mir deemed necessary forced the rescheduling of the bout, but in the most recent episode of HDNet's "Inside MMA," Lesnar said he's not sure the move was made for the right reasons.

"I'm a little disappointed that it got pushed back," Lesnar said. "In my mind, is Frank really hurt, or is he just scared?"

Now I'm not sure but I don't think that being scared had anything to do with it. Mir has fought and beaten some big names other than Lesnar. Just ask Pete Williams, Tank Abbott, Wes Sims x2, Broke Tim Sylvia's arm and Big Nog. Lesnar said that he learned from the first fight but I'm sure that Mir learned from it as well. He has never been the type to back down. He showed that in his last fight with Nog by choosing to stand with him. I think this is nothing more than fight hype. What do you guys think?

Who knows

There was a sketchy quality to the way it all went down and Mir has admitted to lying about injuries. Then again, he did get scoped out. As far as your assessment that he isn’t scared/intimidated, by Mir’s own admission after the fight Lesnar “has fists like lunch boxes”, stunned him with how powerful his striking and control were and has also been quoted as saying he’s worried for anyone that has to face him going forward.

And what did Mir learn, exactly, from the first fight? Lesnar’s been drilling legs with Comprido like a mother fucker, I can tell you that much. If Mir tries the same open hand striking with Lesnar that was successful with Big Nog, he’s going to get his orbital shattered on the first straight that Brock sends through.

The things Mir said about Lesnar in no way means that he is scared. It means that he now respects the threat that Lesnar is. Just like what Griffin said about Jackson after their fight. It’s just showing respect for the other fighters abilities. And yes, Mir learned first hand of Lesnar’s power and smothering fashion. The way that Lesnar’s speed doesn’t let up and his inexperience. I can tell you that Mir is way to smart to just try and stand with Lesnar, but he will come with a plan, and when a limb sticks out Mir will try and separate it from Lesnar body.

by Wookalarman on Apr 4, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

So it’s okay for you to speculate why he isn’t intimidating (based on your faith in him), but when someone points out a tangible reason why he could be, it’s invalid? Not saying he is intimidated, but I’m playing devils advocate. And if he were, those would be reasons why.

You can’t learn that someone is inexperienced, by the way. That’s not applicable going forward, by definition.

Intimidating=intimidated.

What would your tangible reason be? From his comments of respect about Lesnar after the fight? I just said that he was not scared of Lesnar. And of course that is just my point of view as I nor anyone but Mir would know if he were truly scared. About not being able to learn someone is inexperienced, I beg to differ. After the fight you would have a pretty good idea of your opponents experience as compared to before your first hand experience.

by Wookalarman on Apr 4, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

"as I nor anyone but Mir would know if he were truly scared."

Well, I would bet that Mir’s wife knows when he is scared and could see it on his face as she probably scares the shit out of him regularly.

That's ridiculous

Inexperience is temporary, if you’re… umm…. accumulating experience. If Mir expects Lesnar from his first UFC fight, before he trained with Comprido, or before he beat Herring and Couture to show up in July, he’s going to wake up in the hospital wondering how he got there.

You aren’t understanding what I am trying to say. I was talking about what the fighters learned from the fight. Did you read the original article or just my post?

Lesnar said he’s learned his lesson regarding the over-aggressive approach that cost him the bout.

I was just saying that Mir learned from the fight as well. On the night they fought Mir learned how inexperienced Brock was on that night. I’m not saying that Brock is the same now as he was then.

Hey dude. If I did something to offend you I’m sorry. That was not the intention of my post. I was just trying to let yall in on something I found interesting.

Oh geez...

Most people here are quick to think I’ve got something up my ass, but I don’t get offended about MMA. Just talking…

For serious

I guess people find it hard to believe that this is such a casual activity for me, but I’m unshakable when it comes to communicating with strangers on the interwebz. Maybe that makes me more frustrating or something.

Am I the only one who thinks Mir will tap out Lesnar again??

Mir has excellent BJJ. Lesnar is still very inexperienced. I understand that Lesnar is unbelievably big and KO’d Randy, but I still see a Mir win via submission (armbar, kneebar, choke, whatever). I know Lesnar improves at a crazy rate, but I still think he is in over his head. Mir is a top 5 heavyweight and I am not sold on Lesnar no matter if he can beat up a very old Randy Couture and a decent Heath Herring or not.

Mir 2nd round submission win, after Brock “blows his load (of cash that is. Its a gambling term” from Joe Rogan, UFC 63 )

Am I the only one who likes Mir in this fight??

by GroundNPound561 on Apr 4, 2009 6:24 PM EDT reply actions

Sounds like you're merely basing it upon the first bout

Maybe you’re not aware that Brock has been privately training with Rodrigo Comprido for over a year now and that Comprido said that Lesnar has purple belt level BJJ (this was before the Couture fight).

And if there’s anything that’s an MMA pet peeve it’s discrediting individual victories because the guy they beat just lost. Couture is essentially safeguarded from criticism for the rest of his fighting days because when he wins he’s Captain America, but when he loses, he’s an uncredited victory over a geriatric.

Absolutely – Randy was the unreal, ageless, anti-Fedor weapon until his fight with Lesnar was announced. That was, is, and will remain a huge win for Brock.

by Derek Suboticki on Apr 4, 2009 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Definitely a huge win for Brock no dought.

by Wookalarman on Apr 4, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I can't agree with you two more

I was going to post something to that effect about Randy. I personally am not a big fan of his as far as they type of fighter he is, but that doesn’t mean I don’t respect him. I knew he was going to be a tough fight for Brock, anytime you bring that type of skill set and experience against someone else, you are looking for trouble.

That being said, I’m astounded how many people are calling Randy old and washed up…and that Lesnars victory didn’t mean anything. You are right blackout…when he wins he’s Captain America.

by soadtrails on Apr 4, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe you thought Randy was “the unreal, ageless, anti-Fedor weapon,” but some of us always knew how ridiculous that idea was.

by FRANKIE on Apr 4, 2009 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Sounds like you're merely basing your comments on your love for Lesnar

I think Lesnar’s win over Couture was great. I have nothing against Lesnar. I just beleive he will lose. It’s not like Rodrigo Comprido would come out and say, Brock’s BJJ is shit. He hasn’t learned anything this whole time I have been trying to teach him. It’s called hype.

by Wookalarman on Apr 4, 2009 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

=LOL

Don’t get too frustrated, Woogy. I haven’t picked a winner and you’re grinding your teeth already..

Mir cannot take Lesnar down. If this thing hits the round, it will be at Brock’s discretion – otherwise, he’ll keep it standing, eat a Mir punch to turn into a counter, and drop him like he has every fighter he’s faced in the UFC.

by Derek Suboticki on Apr 4, 2009 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions

And before you say it

I know Mir won, but he was dropped twice by Brock’s very raw striking. He’s done nothing but get better since that fight.

by Derek Suboticki on Apr 4, 2009 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Mir doesn’t have to take him down. He proved that in the first fight didn’t he?

by Wookalarman on Apr 4, 2009 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think it’s possible to get an armbar on those fucking trunks or get a choke in on him.

by poundnground on Apr 4, 2009 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Ten reps

He would curl Mir.

No

I think he will submit him again. I think that the fight will last a little longer than the first but in the end Lesnar will tap.

Well then

At least one of us has made their pick widely known.

couldnt agree more. Lesnar will tap.

by GroundNPound561 on Apr 5, 2009 7:14 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree I don’t see Lesnar walking away with the win, I mean yeah he KO’d Couture and that’s an accomplishment but Randy was kind of playing Lesnar’s game and got caught

by drano on Apr 4, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Lesnar's going to whup that ass

But this is an example of a son of a bitch knowing how to sell tickets. If Mir has the same business sense, he’ll come out firing – ‘my knee is as fucked up right now as yours would’ve been had you not tapped like a bitch’ and such.

by Derek Suboticki on Apr 4, 2009 6:27 PM EDT reply actions

I have been waiting for this to start and I’m right with you on hoping Mir comes firing right back.

Lesnar knows exactly what he is doing by saying this. He is selling PPV buys.

That’s one thing I will give Lesnar he knows how to hype a fight even if it is by making himself look like a tool

Mir got ko’d by a chubby Brandon Vera in the first round. When Lesnar lands a solid strike to the head- it’s lights out MIr! He knocked out Couture with a glancing blow to the side of the head. If he catches him with a solid shot, he’ll crumble.

He needs to commentate brazilian fighters with weird nicknames.

This one will be different than last time, because Lesnar will not spaz out and leave a limb hanging out in the wind. I think he’ll hang back and throw punches untill he connects.
