Gamespot likes UFC Undisputed
Seems the guys at Gamespot are getting in to the new UFC Game:
First it destroyed my hand and now UFC 2009 Undisputed has infected the entire GameSpot office. I'm having trouble remembering the last time a game took over GS HQ so thoroughly. Homer and I spent way too much time talking about the game while in NYC for the Madden unveiling and, now that we're back, we've watched the game spread like wildfire among editorial, the GS video team, and beyond.
Sounds like the game will be a ton of fun to play with friends. They are showing the entire tournament tomorrow 4 p.m. PDT (full version of the game), in a special edition of their web show on the spot, and the finals will be shown live. That's a pretty solid endorsement coming from one of the biggest gaming websites around.

With the right amount of friends, energy drinks, pizza (and thousands of calories of other junk)…this game has the potential to take up hours and hours of your life. I’ve only played the demo but it is AMAZING how only two characters with a simple exhibition mode can be so entertaining…
The game is not without it’s flaws, but the flaws cannot outweigh the insane amount of fun that is to be had with this game.

Interesting
I wonder how many of those folks consider themselves hardcore fans, casual fans, and non-fans of MMA. If it is spreading like wildfire among those who generally aren’t all that into MMA, specifically the non-fans, then this thing could sell like crazy.
I know that they’re already predisposed to videogames, but this sort of positivity is noteworthy.

I personally know many gamers who have no interest in MMA who will be picking this up. Alot of the videos I’ve watched of previews were done by people with little to no real knowledge of MMA, but had a fun time playing it. Not to mention all the Gamestop stores have gone balls to the wall with posters…this game has a lot of potential to further MMA’s viewership and help on the path to becoming truly mainstream.
The best way I can really think to put it is like this, I’ve played wrestling games (given this was a couple of years ago) just for the simple fact that I could make a guy and “beat some ass” so to speak…I garuntee you, there are thousands upon thousands of people out there who will hop on this just for this purpose, not even counting fans of fighting games, then the fans of MMA.

From what I’ve read and heard, Gamespot might not always be impartial in it’s reviews

That's just not true
Gamespot has the best reviews available. They’re brutally honest and stingy with high grades.

Except that one of their writers got fired because he gave a sponsor of the website [Kane and Lynch] a not-so-good review.

So...
What exactly does that have to do with the quality of the reviews? They took a stance based on the threat of one of their sponsors.

Wow
I’d say it was more like they abandoned the stance that ‘this guy is a good writer and we like his reviews’ based on the threat of one of their sponsors. That shit is fucked up.

Still has NOTHING to do with the quality of the reviews

How about if they only employ schills?
I’d like to know that the guy reviewing the game – regardless of the quality of the review, which is completely subjective – is not afraid of losing his job if he shits on the wrong game. Personal preference.

You’ve clearly disregarded everything else I’ve said in terms of the quality of the reviews. They regularly give the lowest review scores for each game among the largest video game sites.
Yeah, the reviewers are positively petrified.

That can't be argued
But if it’s too bad or about the wrong game, you’re fired.

Here's a compromise...
I’ll keep reading Gamespot and you read IGN. Deal? Deal.

I don’t know if they’re my favorite/preferred, but they’re certainly better than IGN’s. Generally speaking, I agree they do very quality reviews there.

No doubt
I agree with their reviews more often than any other source.

I find Gametrailers.com’s to be pretty good too. The best, of course, are Zero Punctuation’s.

For hilarity?
Indeed. Gametrailers is not for me. 1UP is decent depending on the reviewer (given that they recently let most of the old timers go), and I agree with GI about 80% of the time.

if it’s not http://www.metacritic.com/ then it’s not impartial.

I’ve played the demo and it’s awesome. You can play as Liddell or Rua and it is simply impressive. Even only being able to play as those two fighters I spent 4 hours playing straight, went and made dinner, then played for another 3. The graphics are breathtaking and the striking is just a blast. When you take it to the ground that’s when things get a little more complicated, but it’s so much fun. I’ve just been playing the AI, I can’t wait to get the full game and play against friends, I also have read that the career mode is just crazy. I’m a huge Madden fan, but this game has captured me like no other.

I have very high hopes for career mode, I like their view that it shouldn’t just be make a guy and fight and train, it’s much more than that. Scheduling everything your fighter does from types of training to PR stuff, rest days, and more…then getting sponsors and training at various gyms. It all seems very well put together, and captures the feeling of being a fighter.

I can't wait to create my own fighter
I can’t wait to start from scratch and work my way up… squeal!
I'm the kind of girl who loves to watch a GOOD fight!
