Azeredo Defeated, Ackah Victorious at Shoot Boxing

PRIDE veteran Luiz Azeredo was defeated by #3 ranked Shoot Boxer Hiroki Shishido on Friday at Korakuen Hall. The bout was evenly matched and scored a draw at the end of three rounds, but Shishido took the judges' decision 3-0 in the extension round. Azeredo first competed in the event - which combines kickboxing with standing submissions - last November, where he choked out Denis Schneldmiller in the S-Cup 2008 Quarterfinals, before being KO'd in a wild affair with Kenichi Ogata.

In the co-main event, #2 ranked Middleweight Takaaki Umeno remained undefeated, improving to 8-0 with a unanimous decision (29-25, 29-25, 30-25) over #2 ranked Super Welterweight Takashi Ono.

Japanese television personality turned fighter Bernard Ackah picked up a win over #4 ranked Heavyweight Masahiro Iwashita. One judge saw the bout a draw (29-29) but the other two gave the nod to the K-1 Hero's veteran (30-29, 30-28).

And in news that makes me sad, Shooto favorite Mamoru Yamaguchi dropped a unanimous decision to Akito Sakimura (30-29 x 3).

Damn, Azeredo has slipped.
It’s sweet to see Ackah doing good, though. I feel so bad for him after he lost 2 straights in HERO’s to Manhoef and then that bogus call against someone else I’m forgetting. I think he was armbarred or something, but didn’t tap…I forget. The guy fights hard as hell, anyway. Maybe he’ll fight in DREAM sometime. Ackah vs. Ologun?
Azeredo has slipped? Not really. He’s still performing waaaaaaaay above expectations. For a guy with striking as terrible as his, he’s really done well for himself lately in Shoot Boxing. Especially at S-Cup. He’s beaten one guy that should’ve blown him out of the water (Schneidmiller), nearly beat another (Ogata), and bean competitive with a third (Shishido).
And Ackah vs. Ologun? Please no.
I meant Andy, not Bobby…if that makes any difference. TV personality vs. TV personality’s brother. Plus, both of them being mostly kickboxing oriented…I think it could be a fun fight, actually.
But you’re right about Azeredo. I was wrong to say that. I think I meant more in exposure/MMA stature.
That much I would agree with...
