I’m stunned. Dida knocked Buakaw down in like the first 30 seconds and Buakaw was on wobbly legs the rest of the round.

Buakaw-Dida R2
Dida’s slowing, Buakaw figuring out the range and getting inside with knees and uppercuts. Dida swinging wild hooks now and mostly whiffing. Buakaw pressing the action, constantly coming forward with leg kicks and push kicks, jabs to the body and knees. Mirror image of the first round. Buakaw takes the second but no knockdowns.
Buakaw-Dida R3
Dida comes out firing. Slip by Dida as he goes for the clinch. Buakaw catches Dida with a straight that seems to wobble him but he ties up with Buakaw in the corner and recovers. Wide, telegraphed left hands from Dida. Buakaw taking the driver’s seat with knees to the midsection and short-range punches. Dida’s exhausted and Buakaw probably just won this fight. Again no clean knockdowns though, so we’ll see if it goes to the extension.

Extension round coming up…
Yeah he blew himself out in the first. He was airmailing every punch for the last 2 1/2 rounds.

Buakaw-Dida Ext. Round
Dida’s punches are coming from a mile away and have nothing on them. Buakaw is in beast mode – moving out of the way of every shot from the Brazilian, snapping back with low kicks, ducking inside and clinching for knees. Dida’s gone to the canvas twice this round but both were rules slips. One minute left. Body shot doubles Dida over. Dida falls again. Buakaw feinting, comes inside but doesn’t get off and Dida hugs him. Left high kick from Buakaw caught by Dida, who slips yet again. It goes to the judges, should be 3-0 Buakaw.
Buakaw def. Dida via Unanimous Decision (3-0) Ext. Round
Nagashima-Kraus R1
Nagashima knocks Kraus down early, but Kraus returns the favor 20 seconds later with a crushing right-left combo from the inside. Nagashima gets up too fast on the 8-count and is still wobbly when the ref restarts the action. Kraus presses him into the corner and lands a beautiful three-shot combo that puts the cosplay warrior out cold. It would have been four punches right to the grill if Nagashima hadn’t fallen out of the way of the last one.
Albert Kraus def. Yuichiro Nagashima via KO, R1
They didn’t air it on TBS. Not seeing results on any of the Japanese sites yet, but I’ll have them before the afternoon.

Souwer-Keastner R1 & R2
Souwer puts Keastner down with a stiff right. Keastner takes a moment to keel over and his knee appears to be on the ground when Souwer knees him in the face. The referee warns him but it’s only a borderline foul and he’s not issued a yellow card. Andy knocks Keastner down again just before the round ends. Easy round for Souwer. Stream problems in the second but more Souwer domination. No knockdowns as Keastner was tying up and avoiding damage more than in the first.
Souwer-Keastner R3
Both fighters slowing, Keastner keeping busier now with inside combinations and leg kicks. He ties up with Souwer again, and Souwer pushes his head down into an awkward knee. Keastner slowly goes to the canvas and pops up quickly, but the ref gives him the 8-count just before the round ends. Should be a unanimous win for the Dutchman.
Andy Souwer def. Leroy Keastner via Unanimous Decision (3R)
Petrosyan-Askerov R1
Petrosyan sends a straight left through the gloves of Askerov. Both men exchanging leg kicks. Petrosyan getting inside with a few knees to the body. An uneventful round, most likely 10-10.
Petrosyan-Askerov R3
TBS edits out the second round and we go straight to the last. Scores are 19-20, 18-20, 18-20 in Petrosyan’s favor as the frame opens. Petrosyan gets inside and lands a brutal knee to the midsection of Askerov, and Askerov crumbles to the canvas! He’s not getting up! What a body shot.
Giorgio Petrosyan def. Dzhabar Askerov via KO, R3

Sato-Drago R1 & R3
Sato landing low and body kicks to open the bout, Drago answering with straight lefts and jabs. Sato feints and throws an inside leg kick, but Drago stuns him with a right and backs him into the post. Drago getting busy with leg kicks now, just misses with a left kick to the head of Sato.
They cut to the final round again and the scores are 20-20 across the board. Sato keeping Drago outside with front kicks and jabs. Drago tries a spinning heel kick and winds up on his rear end. Sato puts together a nice punching combination and finishes out with a knee. Inadvertant low blow on Drago, but he shakes it off and gets back to work with 40 seconds left in regulation. Haymakers from both men as the round ends but it’s too close to call. Could go to Masato, could go to extension.

One more round, someone’s gotta make something happen…
Sato-Drago Ext. Round
Drago lokoks the fresher of the two, pushing Sato around with front kicks and hard body blows. Left hand stumbles Sato, but he backs out as Drago tries to clinch up. Sato looks worn, not much on his punches now, but Drago is rapidly fading too. Right hand to the face from Drago, body shots and more body shots. I’m surprised Sato is still standing with the minimal juice he’s putting behind his shots. Left kicks to the body and rights to the head from Drago. A spinning heel kick and Drago drops his hands with a few seconds left. Sato moves forward for the desperation KO but it’s too late.

Drago def. Yoshihiro Sato via Unanimous Decision (Ext. Round)
Quick thoughts:
- Jienotsu got embarassed.
- Kyshenko was out for blood. I’ve never seen him that aggressive.
- LOL @ the guy who said Dida was ‘the best LW striker in MMA.’ All he has are wild slapping hooks. The flash KD in the first was shocking, but it was almost bad for Dida. If he doesn’t score that KD, he only has to endure two rounds of getting pummelled instead of three.
- haven’t seen Drago/Sato yet, but big from what I’ve heard big ups to Drago. Heard his legs were just destroyed by Sato but he still gutted it out. I definitely wouldn’t have predicted that given his recent perforances. But still, I’m sad that Sato is out of the GP. :(
So who is in the final eight?
Giorgio Petrosyan
Andy Souwer
Buakaw Por. Pramuk
Gago Drago
Albert Kraus
Yuya Yamamoto
Nieky Holtzken
Artur Kyshenko
Very compelling stuff. I just hope for no rematches. You really can’t mess up matchmaking for this one though.
