Silva Attempted 2 Foot Stomps
I may be wrong but I remember Montreal demanding foot stomps be illegal in order for the UFC to put their event on in that city. I found it very interesting that Anderson Silva attempted two foot stomps in the first round. That was the only new rule and he tried just that. By now we have seen the gifs of Silva rubbing his arms and chest with the tiny amount of vaseline from his face. Surely he knew of all the vaseline controversy around the GSP vs. BJ fight. This is a mole hill that will never be a mountain but it seems that Silva either doesn't follow MMA news or he has very little respect for what he may believe to be arbitrary rules.

I think he did it knowing it was illegal
I’m Anderson Silva – you really going to DQ me?

^ His first comment, folks. Think we’ll see an improvement down the road?

There is no guarantee of that. You have had lots of comments and you are still making dumb ones about Silva disrespecting the rules

Foot stomping is allowed under the Unified Rules – they were banned by the UFC for one event to make Montreal feel all warm and fuzzy. It’s a legal maneuver that was made illegal for one night, so I think it is possible he was making a point about how stupid the whole thing was. Yves told him to stop, he did, end of story – I’m pretty much complimenting him for ‘disrespecting the rules’, seeing as how the rule in question was very, very stupid.

That sounds much better than it did in your first comment

not to mention he poked leites in the eye nothin was done!! and all the illegal back of the head punches on numerous ocassions nothin was also done! and in the3rd or 4th round they stopped 10 seconds to early any one notic that??
I remember the eye poke
It seemed to me like Leites was over-selling the poke.

Silva stomped, Yves yelled “no stomp kick” (twice), and that was that.

That's what people mean by "foot stomp"!?!
I thought they meant he tried to stomp on a grounded Leites, like under PRIDE rules. Yeah, it was (bizarrely) illegal, but I doubt even Leites cared much. Such a dumb prohibition…

When you are in the middle of a fight some last minute rule changes someone told you in the locker room might slip your mind. Give the guy a break
I doubt Silva is following this stuff as closely as we are. The dressing room meeting with the ref may very well be the first time he had heard of such a thing.
