I think I remember it opening at -275 and I made a comment on here that those odds had to be a mistake.

Thales Leites +200 vs. Nate Marquardt -206 - W - DEC - 5:00 R.3
I know this is off of the topic of this post but is there anyone who believes that Leites won this fight?

Technically speaking, there is no doubt that Leites won the fight, but there is also no doubt that he won it solely due to the point deductions given to Marquardt. Given that, the judges did make the correct decision in awarding Thales the fight (as long as you give him the first round, which I know I did). Even subtracting the third round point deduction (which was completely bunk), the fight would have probably just been ruled a split draw (28-28, 28-28, and 29-27 Marquardt I believe it would have been).
Marquardt did basically kick Thales’ ass though, that much is clear. Everyone knows that. I don’t think anyone is picking Thales in a rematch. It was a pretty hollow victory but you have to give Leites some semblance of respect for gutting it out after getting absolutely crushed by that illegal knee in the second round (I thought he was out for a moment). Not many fighters would have chosen to continue after that.

Much like the Cerrone knee against Varner the Marquardt knee was a split second difference between illegal and legal. The difference is that the Marquardt knee landed flush and Leites continued but the Cerrone knee was a glancing blow and Varner punked out knowing he was in trouble IMO.

Kudos, I didn’t predict you would turn that around into a baseless insult towards Jamie Varner. I’ll completely flesh out the differences and mention that Leites had fought for ~ 6 or so minutes when the foul occurred (not 23), he did not have a broken hand, he did not have a broken foot, and he did not sustain any eye injury due to the knee.
by ilostmydog on Apr 16, 2009 6:22 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Trust me. I amaze myself sometimes. The eye injury is questionable to say the least. I guess I still hold some venom toward Varner for the way that fight ended.

Or lets see how many fighters we can list more deserving of a middleweight title shot than Leites, i’ll go first Dan Henderson..

Uh, didn't Hendo get his?
Tapout to RNC by Anderson in the 2nd? Why should he get another chance now?

because, as id1 said in his post, he is “more deserving” than Leites…point (i think) being Leites is very much in over his head. On a personal level, I would rather see Hendo-Silva 2 than Silva-Leites. Actually, I would rather see Silva-anyone_mentioned_in_the_above_responses than Silva-Leites.

sorry, have to disagree
He got his shot. He lost. Badly. Since then, he’s had two decision victories (and is now on the TUF path to a Bisbing fight)—nothing that would suggest the results of a rematch would be different, or that he has significantly improved his game. Same goes for Marquardt.. Now Maia or Okami, I think both those guys should have been in front of Leites.

I agree with you on Hendo
His last two fights have been pretty weak. Regardless, I still think he has a better chance of testing Silva than Leites. Silva beat him convincingly last time, but Henderson is a seasoned fighter and while he might get dominated, there is a better chance he will make it a good fight than Leites, who is going to get murdered.
by P4P is a stupid concept on Apr 17, 2009 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, Leites will get murdered
But it’s a better test because we’ll get to see how he reacts to a strong jiu-jitsu player. We already know how he reacts to a great wrestler with boulders for fists (he RNC’s him in the 2nd and the wrestler goes gurgle gurgle gurgle).

Third.
Maia should def. get the next shot at Anderson. Then maybe winner of Bisbing/Hendo.

Shogun line coming in big time
His line being bet heavily right now. From +170 to +130 at Sportsbook. Maybe Liddell’s injury rumor has something to do with it.
