Giving Credit to Kid Nate: The Anderson Silva & Fedor Edition

Fedor_book_cover_medium Books003-1-anderson-silva-striking_medium

So giving credit to where it is due needs to be given to Kid Nate for his book reviews that he does on BE.  I've recently gone back to training part time after about a year lay off and I wanted to get some extra knowledge before I stepped in against any "live" competition so I went to Nate's reviews of Mixed Martial Arts Striking by Anderson Silva and The Fighting System of the World's Undisputed King of MMA by Fedor Emelianenko.

I was going into reading these books thinking I'd pick up some tips to use, but after reading these books... I've found a much better and efficient way of fighting all together.  The striking techniques shown by both fighters are amazingly effective, the takedown and submission techniques (both offensive and defensive) of Fedor are simple to follow and utilize in sparring situations, and the movement techniques by Anderson Silva have opened angles and situations that never presented themselves to me in any prior Muay Thai/MMA competitions that I've taken part in.  After a year lay off, I'm not as "rusty" as I thought I'd be...now I just have to get my conditioning straight.

These two books are incredible and I highly suggest them to anyone who is interested in learning more.  I won't be competiting in any fights officially until after my daughter is born... but I'll be ready none the less and I'll definitely have some more tools in my arsenal that hopefully won't get me killed.

Thanx for the great work Nate and making these awesome suggestions...

thanks!

I added some links to your post so other folks can find my reviews and order the books on Amazon. I’m about to review Dave Camarillo’s Guerilla Jiu Jitsu, another great one from Victory Belt.

War Lurch

I better be on the list for your comeback fight, motherfucker. When’s the due date?

Absolutely man… I’ll definitely keep ya in the loop since you kept telling me there was no way I could stay away for too long. I gotta figure out where I’m gonna fight weight class wise…. I’m constantly hovering between 170 and 185 these days. No way I’m going to fight in 155 again…. I’m not going out like Corey Hill did.

Baby is due July 17th and there are a couple of opportunities that maybe there in early September to get back into the ring…. hard to say with the smaller shows these days, but it will definitely be in Denver.

Beautiful. You got plenty of fight left in you – good to know you’re finally getting some goddamn meat on those bones.

Where are you going to be fighting out of? Fight Factory? Keith’s?

by Derek Suboticki on Apr 15, 2009 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Nah, the Fight Factory wasn’t the fit for me…. they have too much going on. As of right now, I’ve been bouncing around, trying out places but I might be going through either Pikes Peak Combat Sports or Calvary Martial Arts and Fitness…. both gyms want a decision by this weekend.

Hmmm

I think I remember reading that they were going to make another book with BJ Penn, but can’t find where I read it so I may just be making things up. Can anyone confirm this?

Is it true that BJ’s mother actually wrote the book for him? (zing!)
