Quote of the Day: Lyoto Machida Thinks Anderson Silva Could Beat Fedor Emelianenko
Anderson normally weighs (215 pounds). If Fedor fights him weighing (220), I believe Silva would win. Besides being very tactical, Anderson is way superior technically and I truly believe he has the tools to put Fedor in trouble.

There’s no way to pick apart this fight without seeing Silva fight at 205 regularly. I’ll barely touch upon this. People have this preconceived notion that Silva isn’t physically strong enough to deal with the likes of Fedor, but it’s based on the reality that he fights at 185 pounds. If Silva cleans out the 5-6 contenders that are staring down the barrel at 185 and decides he wants to move up long-term, I’d like to see how his fighting weight adjusts with the additional bulk. I think he would transition just fine, but judging this matchup is meaningless otherwise. Fedor at 220 > Silva at 185. Fedor at 220 vs Silva at 220= nobody knows.
I poop rainbows.
Seriously though...
Stepping outside my unbridled hate for Anderson Silva for a moment, why is it that people are even seriously talking about “what would happen” in this hypothetical matchup? Like…in the post above, it mentions "There’s no way to pick apart this fight without seeing Silva fight at 205 regularly. I’ll barely touch upon this. " That suggests to me that there could be some kind of serious analysis about Silva vs. Fedor if the Spider moved up. I’m not critisizing the post above at all….i’m just trying to figure out if people are being serious about this Fedor/Silva thing?

After carefule reconsideration I will concede -5,
but come on man -10? No way.

Ok, -5
But Silva Kool-Aid should never be said again. If someone needs Kool Aid to get on board with Anderson Silva, it should be the Kool Aid that started that analogy.

Are you guys talking about Lyoto drinking Andersons urine or Lyoto falsly buying into the greatness of Silva?
I attempted, but apparently failed, at making a joke
about Lyoto drinking Anderson’s urine.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
I got it, but it didn’t look like anyone else did. A for effort. I like a good urine joke, as long as the urine is not near me.
Yah, I’m still confused where Blackout612 went with the joke. I’m missing something. I thought it was funny, now I’m just confused.
The term “drinking the Kool Aid” suggests that you believe in something out of trickery. Because you’re gullible, stupid, impressionable, naive, ignorant.. Anderson Silva is no less than one of the top three fighters in the world. I took comedic exception to the idea that someone would have to be tricked into believing in him, no matter to what length. All in good fun. We’re jiving… I shit rainbows. v v v v v v

Fedor’s overall power for his size would probably snap Silva’s arm on the floor. I just don’t see it happening. Everyone says shit like this, then the fight happens, Fedor wins, and the post-fight press conference is something like:
Wow, he has the strength of 10,000 bears… I did not realizeHeh heh, that was a quick fight.

This is still funny, Lyoto is doing what all of teammates do
& that is pumping up their buddies. I love Silva like a lot of people do, but I would not give him much more than a punchers chance until we see him facing some stiffer 205ers like Blackout said.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
This is beautiful
Because you know Lyoto thinks he can do it too. We may not see much of Silva at 205 if Machida polishes off Rashad.
Basically, these guys walk around at Couture’s fighting weight, and Fedor fights at about 230 most of the time. After watching Lindland somewhat move Fedor (and Arona actually outgrapple him for a time), I sure don’t think Fedor is absolutely unbeatable.
That’s the beauty of the sport – everyone can be beaten.

ANYONE
Can’t be emphasized enough. As crazy as it would be, Silva would have a chance against Fedor. He would most likely lose, but still.
Back in the good 'ole days...
..we might have actually gotten to see this match.
But it would be pointless because Anderson Silva is such a technician that he would obviously beat Fedor.

Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
Haha
I needed to do some work so I don’t get fired….had to take a break. I have gone way overboard with this Silva thing. I’ve been beating the hell out of a dead horse.
Yes the dancing and showboating is obnoxious. I hate it. Everyone who has the sack to get in the cage deserves respect, and nobody should be acting like that in the cage. Evans, Vera and Grove are on my d-bag list as well. What is even more irritating, though, is the cult-like following Silva gets. Fedor kind of gets it as well. I can see how Fedor’s is sort-of deserving, though, given he is undefeated in his legnthy career. I do not see what Silva does that makes him any different than Miguel Torres, Urijah Faber (before he lost), or GSP? They all fight in divisions where they “beat everyone put in front of them”, however everyone put in front of them is not even close to their level talent-wise. Maybe that makes them all “dominant champions”. If so- fine. But they are all dominant. I don’t see how any one of them is any greater than the others. I mean, I admit, out of all the fighters less than 205, I would also agree Silva is the man…but in my opinion, he’s not that much different than any of those other guys. They are all good.
by P4P is a stupid concept on Apr 15, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions
What Silva does
is fight for Dana White. He also pretty wins decisively or at least convincingly, but that’s not as important as more than a few fighters do this also.
If anyone fights in a weak/shallow division, it’s Fedor.
by bigweeze on Apr 15, 2009 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
The hypocrisy in your statement is amazing.
You actually act like the cult of Fedor is somehow less volumous and annoying that the fans of Silva…or that there is an inherent difference in the way Silva, GSP etc…make their weight classes seem shallow…and yet Fedor doesn’t have the exact same issue. It amazes me how much those statement lack self reflection…
ugh...
I swore to myself I wasn’t going to respond, but I can’t help it. All the responses are valid points except this one. Please try reading:
“Fedor kind of gets it as well. I can see how Fedor’s is sort-of deserving, though, given he is undefeated in his legnthy career.”
I admit that I think Fedor is a super-human god of war who trains for fights by sparring polar bears in siberia and eating babies, but I still can admit that he has fought a weak schedule recently- with the exception of the two former UFC champions he demoilished *in the first round* in his last two fights. I don’t know if the HW division is any weaker than middleweight.
Think like an SAT question:
Column A:
Andre Arlovski (Former Champ)
Tim Sylvia (Former Champ x2)
Mirko Filipovic (PRIDE Grand Prix Champ)
Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira (x2) (Former PRIDE HW, Grand Prix and UFC Champ)
Column B:
Rick Franklin (Former UFC Champ)
Dan Henderson (Former Pride Champ)
Nate Marquart (Nothing)
Travis Lutter (Nothing)
Chris Leben (Nothing)
Unless you consider Pancrase, WEC and Cage Rage on the same level as PRIDE and the UFC, what looks weaker to you?
I just don’t see how some of Fedor’s rediculous fights are any more rediculous than Silva’s. At least he wins them (Chonan, Takase).
by P4P is a stupid concept on Apr 16, 2009 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions
Definitelly ugh...
Its easy when you cherry pick ones guys career for big fights and just list the last couple from the other.
You need to serious change your name here, because you obviously care very much about P4P.
I do think that experiences in Pancrase, WEC, Cage Rage, and other smaller shows are important. People aren’t just born as fighters with 7-10 fights so that they can compete in the big promotions.
Additionally, yes…emphatically yes…the HW division is much, much weaker than MW.
I think Fedor is great, his fans are annoying as hell, and absolutely the best heavyweight fighter to date…and probably at one time the best P4P…but those days are past and several other fighters are better P4P fighters right now. Primarly GSP and Anderson Sivla.
Doesn’t change how great Fedor was in his prime, or at least when there were more notable fighters in his weight class to fight. However, the HW as a whole is improving…but probably not fast enough to provide Fedor with challenges that will re-energize his legacy.
And that should be a big part of the P4P drama, er debate, is that no one is the P4P for all time. Just like the P4P Rankings on Yahoo, someone gets to be the P4P best for a while…and then someone else does, but no one is the best forever…time takes care of that.
I don't know why I try
I didn’t cherry pick names for Anderson Silva- I picked the only legit ones I could find. They happened to be the most recent ones.
If I thought “p4p” held any relavance at all, I would be here blowing up Miguel Torres.
I never said Pancrase and Cage Rage weren’t “important”…I said they were not “equal” to PRIDE and UFC.
If you are of the opinion that the MW division is stacked- that’s fine. My opinion is that it sucked until recently. It just added Henderson, Bisping, Maia and Wandy, so it will be pretty good from now forward.
I personally don’t care who is the greatest fighter “p4p right now” because I think in a catchweight fight, a trained HW like Fedor would beat Silva or GSP 99 times out of 100. I think Anderson Silva is the greatest fighter in the world- at middlewight. I just don’t and never will understand the point of saying someone is the “best p4p”. That’s like saying Northeastern Dakota State University has the best football team “p4p”- so what? The University Florida would still crush them. Not only that, but when you take Miguel Torres’ wins and losses compared to his weight (“p4p”), he clearly is the best “p4p” fighter. Therefore, the whole concept seems rediculous- to me, anyway.
by P4P is a stupid concept on Apr 16, 2009 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions
The only difference that I will say about Silva compared to
Torres, Faber or GSP is that Silva has not only defeated everyone put in front of him, he has absolutely destroyed them. True, he jackassed around with Cote but he was still beating his ass when Cotes knee blew out.
Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics, even when you win you are still retarded.
Why doesn't Machida challenge Fedor himself
He’s a top ranked fighter whose much closer in weight to Fedor. If he’s going to take a swipe at the guy at least put his own ass on the line.
He’s hyping up his training partner with whom he pretty much has in implicit agreement that Machida gets the 205 belt and Anderson gets 185.
by Derek Suboticki on Apr 15, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions
If he challenged Fedor a ton of people would say it was a total bs move because he knows that the fight won’t happen. All he said was that he thinks Silva could win, how was that putting anyone’s ass on the line?
