AFFLICTION-DREAM Co-Promotion In Works For DREAM.10?
Report from Jutarnji newspaper, translated by Doctor "The Croatian Translation" Mitch from Sherdog:
Even though he is out of the ring 'cause of surgery and he won't be ready for a fight at least 30 more days, Cro Cop never had more options for fighting in his life.
5 MMA organisations (2 Japanese and 3 American) would like to see Cro Cop fighting for them. Cro Cop, for now, is leaning towards Dream, but he wants to go in the ring as soon as possible so all options are open.
Only thing certain for now is fight in Affliction – Dream co-promotion in Japan on 20th July. Mirko will be fighting Alistar Overeem, a fight that left many questions and now this guys are gonna answer them. Alistar was dominating the fight and then fight was stopped cause of the illegag nut shots by Overeem.
Other interesting fights on that card will be FYODOR EMELIANENKO vs. JEFF MONSON, and JOSH BARNETT vs. ANDREI ARLOVSKI could be interesting fight too.
"I'm looking forward to fighting against Overeem on 20th July, but I wan't to enter the ring as soon as possible. July is far away. In the next few days I will know more about my fights in 2009. I plan at least 4 fights from May 'till Deember, and I plan to fight 5 times in 2010." – said Mirko!
Note: These are very reputable newspapers in Croatia, but I couldn’t find any confirmation of this anywhere else. So maybe Cro Cop told them a few possibilities or plans and they wrote it like it was a sure thing.
It seems like the only sure thing here is that cro cop is fighting 20th July in Japan. The rest of the information you take “cum grano salis”
UPDATE:
Ok guys, here's the vid:
Sport 15.04. - Sport
That's the sport section of the news from the TV network that Mirko has a contract with, so they have accurate information.
The woman reporter says:
"Mirko Filipović has confirmed that he knows for cetain that he's fighting 20th July in Japan for Dream. He is also looking to perform for Dream in May or for one of the american organisations in June because he wan't to get in the ring as soon as possible. No oponnents have been confirmed for now"
Here is what the rumored card may look like:
Rumored DREAM.10 (DREAM-Affliction Co-Promotion) Event
Date: July 20th, 2009
Place: Japan
Rumored Main Events:
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Jeff Monson
Mirko Cro Cop vs. Alistar Overeem
Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett
WW GP Finalists:
Andre Galvao
Hayato “Mach” Sakurai
Jason High
Marius Zaromskis
Rumored Participants:
Kazushi Sakuraba
Kiyoshi Tamura
This news was also leaked a few months ago, stating that DREAM was planning an April announcement for a "special event" with an American organization, most likely Strikeforce and/or Affliction, pitting their fighters against theirs. There was also speculation about a DREAM announcement regarding an Open Weight GP in the works. It is unknown yet whether these announcements are related to the same event. All we know now is that DREAM.10 is supposed to be taking place in July 20th.
DREAM SPECIAL EVENT
DREAM will announce details in April for a special event. The rumor is that DREAM will hold a tournament pitting its fighters against either UFC veterans or Strikeforce fighters.

What about Strikeforce June 6 for Overeem?
I will play my game beneath the spin light.
Absurd Meridian

This is July 20th in Japan. Plenty of time for Japan.
=)
Plus, June 6 is not a sure thing for Overeem yet, I believe.

Monson has fought pretty much everybody else anyway.

He’s just an additional stop on the Fedor non-UFC HW farewell tour – it’ll be him, Barnett, maybe Overeem… anyone that thinks Werdum, Nelson, Bigfoot or Rothwell poses any kind of threat to him is nuts. Maybe Kharitonov. But it looks to me like Fedor will never be in the UFC, never fight Brock, Carwin, Dos Santos, Nog in a cage, Couture… I’m a sad kitty.
by Derek Suboticki on Apr 15, 2009 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Brock, Carwin, Dos Santos, Nog in a cage, Couture . . . . I’m sure Randy will find his way to a match with Fedor at some point. So, he just won’t fight Brock and we will wait to see if UFC develops any new challengers.
I cannot comprehend why you’re xing out Carwin.
by Derek Suboticki on Apr 15, 2009 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions
Just the one – but he showed the ability to take a punch and deliver devastating power at very close range, in addition to his awesome wrestling and 6’4, 260 lb frame. We’ll never know until they fight.
by Derek Suboticki on Apr 15, 2009 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions
Cool. Guess one win against marginalized Top 20 competition makes a fight between you and the consensus Top P4P MMA fighter for the past 5 years a reasonable idea.
Maybe now you can comprehend why Carwin was xed out.
1. Consensus Top P4P my ass – I’ve been GSP, Anderson, and Torres top P4P lists. Top HW, yes.
2. He’s not unbeatable and he’s never faced an athlete of Lesnar or Carwin’s build and stature.
by Derek Suboticki on Apr 15, 2009 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions
1. Familiarize yourself with the word consensus. Would you say GSP was top P4P in 2007 after Serra loss? No. That is why I say, in the past 5 years, Fedor has been consensus Top P4P MMA fighter.
2. I would say that Fedor has proven a lot about the importance of build and stature in MMA.
Perfect example from Iole (and weo's FanPost)
Silva, whom [UFC President Dana] White insists is the world’s pound-for-pound best fighter, said he wants to be remembered in all-time terms. To do that, he’s going to have to get back to his old devastating self. He became No. 1 in the Yahoo! Sports poll of the world’s best fighters in January 2008 and held the top spot alone for 13 months. He’s been tied with Fedor Emelianenko over the last three months.
Emphasis added

Oh no, we can all be sad he won’t beat Nog into a pulp instead of a ring.
There are like 2 interesting matches for Fedor in the UFC, and they are either too young and inexperienced or just too old and over the hiill.

I’m the only person I know that wants to see Nog-Fedor IV, and I’ll stick by that. Don’t sleep on Frank Mir.

Isn’t Tamura and Funaki also scheduled to fight in the summer, most likely DREAM.10?
by MMASuPreMaCy on Apr 15, 2009 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Yep.
Also, Mirko said last month that his rematch with Overeem would be K-1 rules.

Also, what you’re quoting is not from the article. It is from a user at Sherdog forums. You should give dude acknowledgment for his translation.

Just a pathetic fight for Fedor if true.
Rest of card looks sweet. I don’t buy MIrko fighting Alistair, he’s been doing everything in his power to duck that fight.
Most peopled would have creamed if Fedor fought Kharitonov.
Now he is fighting a guy that just recently beat Fujita and Kharitanov in Japan.
Sounds like a logical fight to me.
Arlovski vs Barnett could set up Fedor’s next fight.
by MMASuPreMaCy on Apr 15, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Most would want to see Fedor vs Arlovski 2.
by MMASuPreMaCy on Apr 15, 2009 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions
Only because I think Arlovski might win.
by Derek Suboticki on Apr 15, 2009 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Thats the point of wanting to see a rematch.

I’m sure you felt the same way about BJ/GSP II, not that that was an overhyped slaughter or anything.

I guess it was pathetic when Monson fought Sylvia for the UFC title? Monson may not be the sexiest opponent but he isn’t a slouch. I wouldn’t call the fight fulfilling but I wouldn’t label it a joke.
This may not be the best time to point out that Sylvia owned Monson when trying to sell Monson/guy that destroyed Sylvia
by Derek Suboticki on Apr 15, 2009 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Maybe not, but Monson is 8-2 since the Sylvia fight and just beat two Top 20 HWs inside a month.
(Okay, I didn’t actually think he beat Nelson, but he got the W.)
by Chris Nelson on Apr 15, 2009 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions
WOW.
If this is true, I think I might jizz in my pants.
If Mirko is healthy, I think he’ll be more competitive, but Overeem will probably still steamroll him. Fedor is gonna shit kick Monson. As for Barnett/ Arlovski… I’d like it if Barnett won, so that a Fedor/ Barnett fight could happen; however, I think Arlovski might take it.
EPIC card, if true.
Supporting all Las Vegas MMA.
'09 is the year of the FW's.
So I guess Affliction got through 2.5 cards before calling it quits.
Looks like DREAM will end up getting Fedor when it’s all said and done.
I hope the dude Bob Sapp fought hasn’t gotten rid of that mask yet.
Damnit.

Way to try to put a negative spin on this.
Good try though, maybe next time. =)

I’m coming to terms with Fedor not coming to the UFC. I console myself with the knowledge that he’ll be the last elite MMA star to do so.

Why would Fedor vs Barnett still be too expensive if they work with Dream?
Doesn’t holding a Mondon/Fedor and Barnett/Arlowski bout cost more all up?
bullshit match making..
it should be fedor vs overeem and cro cop vs monson..
They just be setting up crocop and monson to lose badly..
Well, the winners could fight, which would either be Overeem/Crop Cop vs Fedor/Monson winner, and throw in the Barnett/Arlovski winner in the loop. I think it would be a pretty awesome HW GP.
