Hughes Vs Serra
The time is getting closer. A fight that would have been a lot more relevant back in '07 when it should have happened after TUF 6. Coaches Matt Hughes (43-7-0) & Matt Serra (16-5-0) gave us all a memorable TUF season and a lot of hype leading into their match. Most of that hype has died as the match was hindered for far to long and has lost some of it's initial appeal. With that being said...
I STILL CAN'T WAIT!
Let's take a quick look at both men.
via media.ufc.tv
This will be Hughes 21st fight with 15 wins and 5 losses in his 9 1/2 years with the UFC.
Wins- 7 by KO/TKO, 4 by Submission, 4 by Decision
Losses- 2 by TKO, 3 by Submission
Hughes is definitely my pick for this fight. I think that Hughes will take Serra down prety quick and keep it there till he's done.

This will be Serra's 12th fight with 6 wins and 5 losses in his 8 years with the UFC.
Wins- 1 by TKO, 1 by Submission, 4 by Decision
Losses- 2 by TKO, 3 by Decision
The only chance I see for Serra is if he can defend the takedown and keep it on the feet. I know he is a black belt in BJJ but I don't see that working very well for him against Hughes.
Where do you guys think this fight will leave the winner/loser? Would the winner be able to make another run at the title?

there is absolutely no way
this is probably hughes’ last fight if he wins i bet, his contract is up with this one isnt it?
from the forest itself comes the handle for the axe
Serra
sorry i pressed enter on accident.
Rooting for serra and blindly assuming he will win just cause hes from long island and two of my guys Al Iaquinta and Aaron Friedman train with him.
I'm actually go out on a limb...
and say that Serra takes this.
Sure, Serra doesn’t have great takedown defense, but I certainly think he’ll outstrike Hughes whenever the action is on the feet.
Hughes should be able to score consistent takedowns, and probably won’t be caught in any triangles/ armbars/ omo’s (his sub defense from the top is very good), and if he can keep Matt on the canvas for the majority of the fight, I see him winning a GnP decision.
That said, I like Serra to keep it on the feet long enough to land the most meaningful strikes of the bout, and to eke out a close decision. Very evenly matched fight, though.
