Tito Ortiz and Babalu Split Up After Verbal Altercation During Strikeforce
Promoted to the front page from the FanPosts by Luke Thomas.
MMANews.com is on location at Strikeforce tonight and can report that moments ago, Tito Ortiz and Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Renato "Babalu" Sobral exchanged words and had to be seperated before throwing down in the crowd.
This is the first I've seen about Tito and Babalu having to be physically split up during the show. However, it isn't unlikely that the two "worked" the altercation for the sake of marketing a future bout. The story goes on to note that while the camera was fixated on Babalu, he could be seen flipping off Tito, which led to an exchange of words and subsequently moving Babalu to a different part of the facility for the remainder of the program. Of course, Tito could be seeing more money fly out the window if Sobral is unable to get past Feijao this coming June.

i am actually kinda confused by this trash talk when Babalu has a very tough opponent to fight first.

I get it, but it doesn’t need to be revised. Maybe “are split up”. If the context of the situation somehow leads people to believe they have separated from their same sex marriage, then there’s nothing I can do for them.

that works
Yes, “are” would fix. I think people are just used to seeing “split up” in regards to romantic relationships, and maybe “broken up” in references to fights being separated.

Yes
But I mean to say they were split up; as in, Babalu was taken elsewhere in the arena. It’s like when two kids are being rambunctious and their old man goes “Hey, cut that shit out you little fuckers, or I’m going to split you two up!”.

For sure
Yes, that’s clear. I think the problem is that headlines leave out pronouns and other connectors, so it leaves room for confusion. In this case, the full sentence would be “guards split up Tito and Babalu” but to save space, “guards” gets dropped which then leaves unclear who is doing the splitting up—the participants or an unnamed third party. Hed is fine as written; I’m just a media geek and it seemed a few people had the same (funny) misread as me.

Very psyched about this fight if it happens. We’ll finally know who the best LHW fighter of the night is.

Ya think? :P
If it was a work then it was very poorly done being as no one heard about it and it didn’t make the broadcast.
But it may make a future broadcast ...
… once they have a fight to hype.

We are discussing it on the internet two days after the event, as far as viewership numbers go that is no one.
Hardcore MMA fans that follow the sport on internet websites is a very small portion of the MMA audience and this story isn’t even getting widely disseminated to that group. Even just considering internet MMA fans this is only a blip on the radar. Doing a worked arguement that doesn’t even get marginal internet exposure until 3 days after it happens is pretty damn weak, it would be like the WWE deciding to do a back stage worked fight but then not filming it or telling anyone about it.
No honestly I would of expected Strikeforce to cover it at least though. I mean what is the point of staging a worked fight to promote a future match if the company that is considering doing to match doesn’t even bother to point out that it happened? If you were going to do this for the intention of drawing attention then you probably would of wanted to do this on camera during the event telecast or at least at the press conference after the event with all the media around paying attention not in a crowd where they were lucky that a random person in the audience caught it on tape. I wasn’t expecting ESPN to cover it but good grief you would expect more than shakey fan video on youtube if it was a planned publicity stunt.
Seriously why would they of faked something so lame as the two jawing at each other for 20 seconds in the crowd and Babalu being moved to another seat? Is it too much to think that one of the sport’s biggest mouths and a guy with a legendary short fuse for people not giving him respect exchanged a few heated words in the crowd at a event and it wasn’t something pre-planned? If it was pre-planned for publicities sake then it was very poorly thought out (it’s got all of 1800 views on youtube, whoopie).
I was there
I had really good floor seats and could see Overeem, Arlovski, and Babalu. I don’t recall this happening, unless I and MMANews have a very different definition of “exchanging words”.

If you think this was trolling, please give me a good reason why.
Training with Anderson Silva, Nogs, and Machida, young guy, having an incredible skill set, a good record, considered by many to be a future star in the LHW class, and I’m trolling? People said the same thing about Machida 2-3 years ago and look where he is now. I think it’s funny how people say it’s trolling without providing any facts why.

If you said he could beat them in 2-3 years, I would have had no problem with it.

You read my mind.
Kid’s got talent, don’t get me wrong – in a couple of years he could be a contender. The point is that until he’s in the UFC and fighting all the other awesome 205er’s, we won’t know.

i think Feijao and King Mo will both be top 5 guys within their next 3 fights

Don't see how that's possible
As long as they’re not competing against the UFC’s crop of elite 205er’s, they’re going to have limited maneuverability.

I agree, unfortunately he won’t be able to crack the Top 10 without going to the UFC. Regardless, WVR will have some awesome matchups for Mo by the time he’s off the shelf. I’d love to see him against a high level grappler like Xande.

If one of them (more likely Feijao given his promotion) went on an absolute tear and beat somebody like Minotoro, I could see a top-10 ranking. Other than that, I’m with you.
That’s not to say that they wouldn’t be at the top of certain lists, but those people are clinical.

Not True
If Feijao beats Babalu and Lil Nog or Vitor, plus losses from the lower end of the top 10, it could happen within a year or two.

Considering Feijao signing with Strikeforce, I wouldn’t be shocked if he only got three fights in a year/year and a half. Especially if he gets an injury.

Fuck it..
I like Feijao, but there’s no use being diplomatic— it’s just a stupid argument. He’s got zero chance of leapfrogging the likes of Machida, Rampage and Evans and very little chance of surpassing Forrest or the winner of Chuck/Shogun on the back of two victories over non-or-barely top 12 guys. Beyond that, the progress of similarly talented up and comers within the UFC will grant them more consideration for reaching the Top Ten. Jon Jones anyone? That doesn’t begin to consider that for the top five to drop, they’ll likely be replaced by their peers (Franklin, Jardine, Hammill, et al). Nevermind the ridiculousless of his initial point that Feijao would literally beat Forrest or Rashad “anyday”. Maybe if he internalized even just a little bit of that boundless anti-Zuffa sentiment, he’d be taken the least bit seriously around here.

Why only 3 fights?
Strikefource is putting on 16 fights per year. All nationally televised at that. Why would anyone be shelved?

Lack of talent, most fighters won’t fight more than four times per year. Three sounds about right.
