Kim Couture to Face Miesha Tate at May Strikeforce Event
Kim Couture will meet Meisha Tate in the debut of the promotion’s "Challenger Series" on May 15 in Fresno, Calif. Strikeforce confirmed the fight via its official website.
...
The bout will be contested in three five-minute rounds, a break from the standard three-minute rounds allotted by the California State Athletic Commission for women’s bouts.
I may well be wrong about the current state of Kim Couture's skills, but I can't see her holding her own against someone with Miesha Tate's ability and experience. Her only loss coupled with five wins came at the hands of Kaitlin Young. Tate's wrestling background helped her control the visibly larger Elaina Maxwell en route to a decision victory. That fight was contested at 145.
In short, Tate is larger, has more fight experience and, in my judgment, has a more developed skillset than Couture. Personally, I don't like this matchup. On the surface, it doesn't look like a competitive affair at all.

‘Need’ and ‘want’ are different words.

No, this is not about money, she has access to millions of dollars, this will make her like 10 grand.

There are two certainties
Kim will make weight
Kim will lose

Agreed with Jacques.
No way Couture wins, or is even competitive in, this fight.
Miesha’s a razor, man. She’s an honest-to-goodness professional fighter. Couture might get there one day (though I doubt it), but she’s not there now.
Although detractors decry (MMA) as a brutal, bloody form of human cockfighting, aficionados know it is a brutal, bloody, totally fucking awesome form of human cockfighting. -The Onion

Well, KC took a little flak for a fight too easy last time. At least giver her the credit that she isn’t fighting another can.
MMA fans respect Kim Couture?
While I actually agree with you, there is no way most guys here are gonna do it until she beats Roxy or Cyborg.
Well, she certainly has to beat someone a lot tougher than Kvokov. Kedzie, LaRosa, Baszler, Buckner, Modafferi, Evinger, Kobold, Toughill… Don’t see her beating any of them, at least not yet.
Maybe Tate can convince her – and the promoters – that the name Couture alone isn’t credential enough.

Re: Respect
She has some of the best trainers in the business and fought an entire fight (literally) with a broken jaw.
Are there better fighters? Yes.
Unless people have evidence I am unaware of where she is mentally and physically incapable of achieving what other females can, people need to get off the anti-bandwagon.

My only problem...
is that I want some girls with better talent to get the exposure she is getting. She’s damn tough and I’m sure she is improving. But whatever. She certainly deserves respect.

I don’t feel like having another comment deleted over Kim Couture – suffice it to say I’ve made my feelings known about how I feel it affects other, serious amateur fighters that actually need the money and exposure.

MMA promotions aren’t equal opportunity employers.
If you’re going to apply classist affirmative action to an entity which is wholly exclusive to that mindset then you are going to be upset over many things with no possible chance of restitution.
Cut your losses and apply your own moral values to situations which deserve such attention.
Nepotism is a bitch, whether you were born with the last name or acquire it through other means.
I’ll leave it at that.

I don’t have a problem at all with Kim Couture fighting or taking this fight. I’m certainly not one to infringe upon the rights of her, the promoters, or anyone who’s acting in a way that doesn’t directly hurt someone else. This “Challenger Series” sounds like the place for her to fight. I just think there are better matches for her out there from a competition standpoint. I understand them using her status. My objection is that I don’t want to see an uncompetitive fight.
