UFC 96: Ones to Watch

MMA Spot's D.W. Antler breaks down the potentially huge implications for several fighters competing on Saturday night's Pay-Per-View event, UFC 96: Jackson vs Jardine. Get details on what may happen to these fighters if they were to win, and the possible consequences if they were to lose this Saturday.

Star-divide

This Saturday evening, the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its return to Columbus, Ohio for UFC 96: Jackson vs. Jardine. It seems that the marketing experts within UFC’s promotional department are running out of colorful adjectives to follow the colon for their events, as this card comes hot on the heels of UFC 95: Sanchez vs. Stevenson.

Although this card may be without some of the usual pizazz of a top-notch Pay-Per-View and lacks the presence of a championship fight, Saturday's slate is a nice mix of title contenders, up-and-comers and fan favorites.

MMA Spot would like to shine a spotlight on some of the competitors who have the most to gain (or lose) come Saturday night.

Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson

Shane Carwin

Jim Miller

Overall

Although this event could be a ‘Make or Break’ fight for quite a few of the UFC veterans, it could also turn out to be one of those events that we all look back on at the end of the year and think “that is the event that catapulted (insert name here) into superstardom.” Which is what most of these fighters, except for maybe Quinton Jackson, is hoping for. Even some of the other fights on the card could lead to bigger and better things for the winner. Guys like Matt Brown, Jason Day, Tamdan McCrory, and Mark Munoz, could all find themselves with high caliber match-ups, and the backing of the UFC’s promotion machine, if they happen to win.
